Dakota Johnson's Ballerina Nails Are Simple Holiday Perfection

Cue up "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy."

There are a lot of celebrities with backgrounds in ballet, and Dakota Johnson... isn't one of them. Still, she has a certain je ne sais quoi that gives "would look right at home in a wrap top." It might be her role as a dancer in Susipiria, or maybe her appreciation for a simple manicure, but something about her screams "classic," and therefore "balletcore."

In a new campaign for Gucci—the Gucci Gift campaign, to be specific—the 35-year-old/not-former-ballerina gave a present of her own: the perfect holiday nail inspiration for fans to take for a twirl. (Really, when it comes to having a background in ballet, isn't everyone a dancer when the holidays roll around? Don't tell me you've never twirled to Tchaikovsky. Applying a coat or two of Essie's Ballet Slippers for your holiday photos counts, too.)

Kept short and oval-shaped, the shiny, sheer pink nails featured the very thinnest of French tips. It’s the kind of manicure a Nutcracker ballet dancer would wear knowing that they might have to switch roles quickly—is tonight the night they step in for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" at long last? If so, they'd be ready with this simple-yet-elegant mani, made possible by a glossy polish that appeared almost powder-pink next to the actress's similarly colored and crystal-encrusted boatneck dress.

The stunning nail art was the work of celebrity nail artist Michelle Class, who worked alongside hairstylist George Northwood (who said in an Instagram post that the campaign put him "well and truly in the festive spirit") and makeup artist Georgie Eisdell.

In contrast to her sweet nails, the rest of Johnson's look was a bit more dramatic. Her long brunette hair was worn down and styled with a cool-girl wave that extended to her edgy full fringe. Meanwhile, her gray-green eyes were rimmed in expertly smudged-out kohl with a hint of metallic eyeshadow peeking through to echo the glittery stars of her dress. A flush appeared low on her cheeks thanks to some blush, and her lips were covered in a shiny lipstick that could be Gucci's own Satin Lipstick in the rosewood shade "Blaze of Noon."

The campaign, which also starred actor Julia Garner, centered on a fancy holiday party thrown in Florence. Imagine, for a second, that you've invited Johnson to your own holiday soirée. She shows up and hands you a hostess gift, and when she hands the chic bag over (does it contain limes?) you see her nails and decide you must have them for yourself. A holiday tradition if there ever was one.
