5 DIY Summer + Floral Body Scrubs You Can Make for Mom

summer floral diy body scrubs

There are two days every year when we can really celebrate our mamas: their birthday and Mother’s Day. With at least one of those days approaching quickly, it’s time to narrow it down to exactly what Mother’s Day gift you’ll give to make Mom feel extra special, appreciated, and loved this year. If you’re anything like me, then your mom is such a badass, she gets herself what she needs and wants (so finding her a gift is challenging); OR you want to buy everything you see to shower her with treats and goodies, but your bank account is not cool with it. Don’t worry — I have the solution.

One of my favorite things to do is create recipes for DIY bath + body scrubs made with things you can find at your local grocery store — the perfect low-budget, super thoughtful gift for Mom! Just add a sweet Mother’s day card and you’re golden. For this series of DIY body scrubs, I tapped into an iconic staple of Mother’s day gifts – flowers. These scrubs incorporate seasonal summer fruits along with blooms that will be sure to melt your mom’s senses along with her heart.

Pineapple Banana Bliss

mother's day diy scrub

This piña colada-inspired sugar scrub will help brighten a dull complexion. The enzymes in pineapple will strip away dead skin, and the banana will soothe and hydrate for a perfectly balanced body scrub. You can totally snack on it too — don’t knock it ’til you try it!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sliced pineapple
  • ½ sliced banana
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • Flowers for toppers
mixing together ingredients

Begin by mashing the pineapple and banana into the bowl. Add in the coconut oil and sugar and stir until everything is blended. I topped this one off with the petals from a tulip to bring that floral pop of added love.

Strawberry-Covered Cacao Body Scrub

I was walking through the grocery store and noticed a strawberry chocolate candy bar, and I thought to myself, How do I bring this to life? After a little more aisle-stalking, I found everything I needed to create this literally mouth-watering body scrub that will leave Mom’s skin with a little glow from the cacao. She’ll have all she needs to exfoliate, brighten and shine with the ingredients in this yummy blend.

Ingredients

  • 1 handful of strawberries
  • 1 container cocoa butter
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • Chocolate bar shavings + flowers to top
mixing together the diy body scrub

Muddle the strawberries to break them down into a consistency that will blend easily, and then add the cocoa butter. Before mixing you can add the cocoa powder and brown sugar. Mix and package.

Lavender Lemonade Scrub

The inspiration for this concoction was an amazing jar of lavender-infused honey (OMG, it tastes SO SO SO good, FYI). Honey alone is so soothing and wonderful for your skin, and adding lavender to the mix only makes the mixture more relaxing. This particular scrub is great for the mom who could use a little detox of the surface layer of her skin. The lemon helps kill any bacteria, while the honey and coconut oil will soothe and soften her skin.

Ingredients

  • Pulp from 1 lemon
  • ½ cup lavender honey
  • 5-8 drops lemon + eucalyptus essential oil
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup dried lavender
  • Flowers + dried lavender to top
mixing together ingredients

Blend all your ingredients in the bowl and add your oils last. Then mix, package and top with your choice of flowers.

Honestly, nectarines just smell so good, I figured they’d be a great ingredient to add to a body scrub. Turns out, I was right! The intoxicating scent takes this scrub to the next level.

Ingredients:

  • Pulp from 1 nectarine
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup coconut sugar
  • ½ cup coconut shavings
  • Flowers to top

Tangerine Rose DIY Body Scrub

Ingredients for rose tangerine scrub

There’s something to be said for the way the tart zest from the tangerine combines with the soft aroma of the rose oil. Your mom will feel balanced and calm — sure to put a huge smile on her face.

Ingredients:

  • Pulp from 1 tangerine
  • 5 drops rose essential oil
  • 5 drops tangerine essential oil
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • Rose petals to top
mixing together ingredients

It’s best to use your hands to break down the pulp from the tangerine. You’ll want to drain a lot of the juice out so the mix isn’t too watery. Then add all your other ingredients in, mix and package.

For packaging, you can use something you find at Walgreen’s, a mason jar or candle tins (that’s what I used!). Grab a bouquet of wild flowers and use a few petals in your packaging, then give Mom the rest of the bouquet! If none of these ingredients strike your fancy, then switch them out for something you know Mom will love. As for the mess in your tub, just be sure to tell her to use her drain cover to catch anything that doesn’t melt down.
