Women haven't always had the right to vote
The first International Women's Day was celebrated more than one hundred years ago, back in 1911.
Since then there have been lots of changes for women around the world.
Historically, women and girls have not been treated as equal to men and boys.
For example you might not know that women in the UK haven't always been able to vote.
Despite the progress that's been made towards equality, across the world women do still face discrimination.
In Afghanistan, girls have been banned from education after a certain age.
IWD is celebrated in lots of different ways
International Women's Day is marked in lots of different ways; from rallies to concerts, festivals and fun runs.
You might have an assembly or lesson about it in school.
For many people International Women's Day is also a time to think about who the important women in our lives are.
So, whether it's a family member, teacher, celebrity, historical figure or mentor, we want to hear about the inspirational women in your life.
