Service from Ale was wonderful!
The property is really in the middle of nowhere…. Making it the perfect location for the northern lights…. and we couldn’t say enough about the outside hot tub… one of the most incredible experiences ever! We were blown away truly!

I liked the size of the room and that there was a table and two chairs. It would have been nice to have a small lamp. Also would have been nice to have some hooks to be able to put away jackets at the door.
A good place to stay- friendly, clean, quiet, etc.
A good place to stay- friendly, clean, quiet, etc. The jacuzzi and sauna were a nice touch and enjoyed after a day of trekking and driving. Borgarnes is nearby for food and such. The Conti breakfast was great - lots of healthy and tasty choices, and the coffee was good. All in all, thumbs up!

The guesthouse is a hidden gem along the coast in a very pleasant little town. From here you can walk along the seaside to enjoy the midnightsun when the sky is blue. The adjacent restaurant has a very friendly and welcoming staff and a range of excellent food as well as an enjoyable seafood buffet with several choices of fresh fish. And don't forget to try their lamb !

Busy little town, with various amenities. Has several museums in the area. A coastal path runs round the west side of the town giving good views of the area. There a number of food outlets along with a Netto supermarket. For refuelling purposes, there a three separate garages for fuel, next to route 1.

The local pool was lovely - we went in the evening, so it was dark (I really like this).
There was a local cafe/bar that served some great value meals - the lamb chops were sublime.
There is a lovely friendly vibe in Borganes, and I would highly recommend putting it on your trip.

It is a bit run down but it is quiet and the beds are comfortable. Like most of Iceland in our experience, the pillows could be better. Hot pot, coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided, which was nice. There is free parking, however I can imagine at times it may be hard to find a spot as the lot supports the restaurant as well. We had dinner at the restaurant, food was good and the portion was large.
In a nutshell, this is a decent budget accommodation, with a restaurant on site which makes it convenient. If you plan to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation before 5pm. They were able to squeezed us in without one but there were many who were not as lucky.

Borgarnes is underrated as it doesn't have any bucket-list sights. It's a mid-size small town by Iceland standards, but it's got a lot to recommend it - it's a very typical Icelandic place, and one with a variety of landscapes and bay views.
The Settlement Museum is overpriced (as most Icelandic museums are), but even without a visit there, Borgarnes is a good place for walking. It also has some decent to excellent eateries (the Bara bar and restaurant in the heart of the town is outstanding, and even the N1 station cooks up some of Iceland's best meat soup.)

We had booked at the waterfront property, hoping for the promised views, but were moved to the 'Old City Hall', which was still in the process of renovation into hotel rooms and on the main road into and out of town. The room itself was very large and had a private bathroom. There was a large kitchen, dining and lounge area which were shared with other guests and, it seemed - hotel staff. The location was very good for our self-drive tour around Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
While this hotel is on the other side of the bridge at Borgarnes it is a lovely location and well worth the stop off. The rooms are quite small but clean and as you are only sleeping after a long day driving size is immaterial. It is very cosy and a real bonus is the hot tub and sauna access for guests. Breakfast is included and is a nice selection on cereals and cold foods with warm drinks available all day,
Hotel Hamar is a golfers' paradise, set in beautiful surrondings with distant mountains, a lake and a well maintained link with plenty of trees. The full breakfast offered in the delightful dining room is second to none and the evening gatherings are enjoyable.
