FAQs about hotels in Washington

A World Icon

Boasting many national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guest house booked through Booking.com.

Washington D.C. deserves a longer stay.

Washington D.C. deserves a longer stay. While we were there, the weather was glorious and the photos we took turned out very well. I love the fact that we can walk from monument to monument with ease. The architecture of the place is magnificent and so beautiful, i really love gawking at them all. I also spent 2-days visiting my fave museum -- "The Museum of the Bible." Love love it! Only thing to note is - parking is super expensive. In my next visit, i will not drive but will use uber to get around town. Also, be prepared to hear alot of police and fire truck sirens while you are there, these sounds are very much part of the experience.

Great place to visit, expecially for families. The city is set up to welcome visitors and share the history of the US. Museums are free, even to international visitors! Go to the Air and Space museum, the museum of African American history and the national gallery in particular, do a hop on hop off bus tour - the monuments are amazing. Go, go, go!

Lovely city, felt very safe and mostly clean.

Lovely city, felt very safe and mostly clean. There was a strong smell of 'weed' in certain locations as this is legal in DC. The weather was great in October mid to high 20s. So much to see and most can be done on foot if you are up for a walk. The metro system is very good and quite cheap, also boat services along the Potomac to Alexandria and further are worth doing. Enjoyed some very nice meals, didnt need to book for most. Used the metro from the airport to the hotel in Georgetown ( foggy bottom ). Uber worth doing for bigger groups. Recommend you use the new MPC app to save you a lot of time at immigration, otherwise the queuing is horrendous.

Visited most of the iconic places, The Capitol, National American History Museum, Arlington National Cementery, Museum of National History, Air and Space Museum (Both, the one in National Park and the biggest one close to Dulles Airport), Washington Monument, Lincon Monument, Martin Luther King Jr Monument, Veterans... Korea War... all of them are good and I do recommend going there. I did not like the foodtrukcs so I turned to having lunch at Chick Fil A. Its easy to walk around all the monuments, no need to use a taxi in my opinion.

I've been using DC as a "hangout" every 2 or 3 months (for when I want to get out of my hometown of Philadelphia for a couple of days) for over 15 years now. DC has a very european mentality about it, to go along with the many different cultural, food and beverage experiences that it offers. From Hidden Speakeasies to Bottomless Brunch, from Bolivian bar/lounges to Embassy parties, DC offers so much that you don't have available in other "ports of call". I like it so much that I'm a season ticket holder with the DC Defenders Pro Football team....... One last thing, I'm always amazed by just how CLEAN it is for being such a large international city!

I have been in this hotel many times before 8-10 years earlier and it has transformed in a mediocre hotel. The good French restaurant is gone and the bar has changed into an ugly cheap atmosphere location. The rooms are still nice and clean, but no bar. The lobby has lost its atmosphere and the elevators are dirty. To be honest, this hotel needs a refit
