Exceptional customer service from the reception team. Lovely clean and spacious 1 bedroom apartment with great facilities. A great pit stop before our Tranzalpine train to Christchurch. There was a restaurant attached to the hotel - we didn’t realise this beforehand so had dinner en route, but it looked like a popular venue.
Just a few minutes walk from a beach which was a good spot to see the sun set.

We were driving to South Island as a tourist, we stopped at Greymouth for 2 nights and visited all the tourist attractions there and then drove to Christchurch. Enjoyed some good food in Montieth and another restraint close to Bella Vista.

Having lived on the Westcoast (Hokitika with Kathleen having grown up further south in Ross) many years ago we had always considered Greymouth a less than desirable place. However this time commented that it has come of age and appears much more prosperous. A good starting point to explore other parts of Westland. We then travelled north to Karamea, staying two nights then returned to our home in Timaru via the Buller Gorge route. A very good private tour. Timaru - (via Arthurs Pass) Greymouth - Karamea - Timaru (via Buller Gorge and the inland route from Amberley and through Oxford - 72 Highway)

We had a great run of fine warm weather.
We had a great run of fine warm weather. The walkways were great. It was nice having the walks down the beach so close to the unit. We enjoyed the meals at the Recreation Hotel. We played Greymouth Golf course several times as well. Our reason for the visit was to go to the horse racing at Greymouth, Reefton & Kumara. We enjoyed all of these activities very much.

This is a quiet town but an important destination for those taking the Trans Alpine trains. But the draw of the town should be Monteith's Brewery! They have guided tours and their selection of freshly brewed beer and their food were delicious.
You can stay in Greymouth and drive for 30 minutes to Horkitika, a beach front town. There are nice eateries and shops in Horkitika and you can easily spend a day there.

By far, the best and coziest lodge/hostel that I’ve stayed in New Zealand. The owners are superb, and so is the lodge itself. Spotless clean, beautifully decorated, quiet and with green and lake aside, and the beach behind. Would have stayed longer if I had the time
Located not far from SH6 the ocean on one side and the rain forest, where the property is, on the other. Close to four of the loveliest short walks, including the treetops which in my opinion is New Zealand Aotearoa's answer to the Eiffel tower.
Alpine Rose is an absolutely lovely place to stay in Greymouth, extremely clean, modern furniture, appliances and decor, the beds are very comfortable and whole place is absolutely perfect, spotless.
The hotel is ideally located in the centre of Greymouth with plenty of guest parking. The room was very well appointed with a large be and flat screen TV.
