The room was pretty decent and well equipped for two persons. Including coffee and tea facilities in the room and a vending machine with snacks and drinks quite close to the room. The building has lots of character and breaths history

I didn't know what to expect but picked Leeuwarden as a central spot for exploring Friesland. It is a beautiful town that is the perfect size to get around easily. There was so much more to do here than I expected and could easily have stayed for a week or more without getting bored. It was easy to walk to great museums, restaurants and shopping.
My children highly recommended the Nature Museum which was very interactive and good for children of all ages and adults too.
We enjoyed shopping in the Blokhuispoort and taking to the artisans about their sustainability story.
We stayed at the Post Plaza Hotel and highly recommend it.
Next time, I will go in spring/summer/fall and rent a bike to explore even more. Very bike friendly city.

The city is a perfect example of how to combine the old with the new. The architecture is very nice to observe, the people are friendly, there's a lot going on on the streets so it's never boring and there are also a lot of quiet places by the canals where you can get a moment of rest. There are not a lot of things that would be specifically aimed at tourists which adds a very nice wibe as you get the sense that the atmosphere is very genuine.

Friesland is a beautiful area of the Netherlands.
Friesland is a beautiful area of the Netherlands. Leeuwarden itself is a busy tourist town with lots of things to see and lots of shops and restaurants. Like many of the surrounding villages (for example Franeker) it is full of old, historic buildings. The sea is not far away and you should definitely try a guided mud walk (wadlopen) when the tide is out.
A few kilometers to the south of Leeuwarden you will find De Alde Feanen National Park. Rent a bike in Grou and cycle along one of the many marked cycle routes.

I've only stayed two days for a conference, it wasn't sufficient to discover the town.
From what I could experience, Leeuwarden is a pleasant place with historical sites. It's great for walking and biking, has a lot of restaurants for all the tastes.
At the same time, everything is quite expensive, from accommodation to food.

This was a very charming little city, with lovely, bricklined streets, a stunning architecture, and lovely, local businesses lining broad streets with canals running down the middle. I didn't eat 'out' while I was there, I just purchased food from the various supermarkets, which provided excellent fare for a reasonable price.
This is an exceedingly easy city to get around in. The historic "core" is small and compact and easily walkable.

I went there to visit a friend. I stayed on Monday night and I was told Mondays are quiet as many places close on Mondays. But I enjoyed the quiet surroundings indeed.
Yes, it is small but lovely. And it is easy to get around. Well, avoid Monday as most places close on Monday.

Post-Plaza is clearly a superb hotel, with everything done to the best standard, but it is above all a very individual joint. Brilliant staff and innovative design thinking in the conversion and the fitting out. Food is great. Reminds me strangely of Bogart and Casablanca! Most amazing thing is that it is not much more expensive!
It's a solid choice. Right across the street from Leeuwarden train station, so the location is super convenient. Other than that, it's a standard hotel room. Nothing stands out (neither in the negative nor in the positive sense).
Lovely hotel, great decor and ambience. Great bar and restaurant. Hotel room was clean and spacious, beds were comfortable and it was very quiet. Really close to the rink, the station, shops and the centre of Leeuwarden itself.
