The room and bed was bigger than expected, and the location was great. Really close to the 2 train stations and starting point for the Nikko world heritage bus stop. The onsen was also lovely with 3 baths (one being outside).

Nikko is a great town to spend a couple of nights exploring a calm and beautiful area in Japan. It is a quiet town, where you exolore during the day and relax in the onsen at night. The town is walkable and there are buses to go to the montain and lake. Many hikes and temples available.
The Nikko pass is great for the train to and from Tokyo and all the buses in town.
The food in Nikko is fantastic, you will find many different ways to eat Yuba, the tofu skin, in all the town restaurants.

For me, the imperial Villa is a must-do in Nikko.
For me, the imperial Villa is a must-do in Nikko. The temple site is impressive, but expect a lot of tourirsts. The Villa, on the other hand, is only 1 km walking from the Nikko entrance, and there was virtually no one.
Try to arrive at the temple complex at opening hours, and do the Villa in the afternoon.

Lovely historical aspect. Toshugu Shrine was really cool.
Lovely historical aspect. Toshugu Shrine was really cool. Would recommend. Rinnoji Temple was beautiful as well. You could probably skip the others though, and the museums too unless you have lots of time to kill. Getting around was fairly easy. There’s a bus that picks up from Tobu Station and goes all the way up. It is pricey though, maybe 1500yen each way.

Nikko is a small historic town.
Nikko is a small historic town. It has got the famous Toshogu shrine. It was 1600 yen entrance fee. Also, I found the town to be very clean, the streets and the restrooms. Moreover, there were some hiking trails, water falls, hot springs and the lake chuzenji. It is a great place for outdoors people. Many outdoor activities to do there.

Nikko is one of those places that looks like tourist-central on paper but it's worth going there. It's quite near Tokyo so don't worry about long train rides. The temples and nature in Nikko, and walking around will already do you good, and on top of that there's some fun-parks nearby. Kinugawa onsen is a city nearby with places to enjoy onsen, and I enjoyed going there but it's not for everyone, so do you research.

This is my second time to Nikko but this time doing an overnight stay in Nikko and then then one night in Kinugawaonsen. And we did the Sengyogahara hike with Yunoko falls, Kegon falls and Chuzenji Lake besides exploring the Toshogu shrine. The Nikko pass is a value for money pass enabling us to explore the different places within Nikko and Kinugawaonsen. The timing was just right with the full blooms of sakura especially in the Toshogu shrine areas.

The hotel is in a beautiful spot in the woods and is in reasonable walking distance from the Tobu Nikkō station. The space is old and a bit worn but charming and the staff is great. It's a hotel with a feeling of a hostel for older people as there is a lounge for watching TV where you can meet and chat with other visitors, and tables where they serve breakfast and dinner. The french toast is always delicious. This is our second visit and we will always stay there whenever we go back to Nikkō.
It was an excellent stay. The location is very convenient for exploring Nikko and the inn has amazing river views. The room was spacious, modern and very clean. The best part about our overnight stay was the owners - really warm, friendly and welcoming, gave us great information on places to see. Overall it was a highlight of our trip, much better than any hotels. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and will be coming back to this inn on our next trip to Japan.
The room was very spacious, more than the average in Japan for similar hotels. There is parking available on site. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet. Location is very convenient, with many shops nearby. Excellent if you come to Nikko by train.
We rented a suite and the room was in the annex - modern, large and great views. It’s in an awesome location for visiting the Nikko National Park.
The main hotel is olde world - coming from a different era
