Snow and slushy rain were forecast in Tokyo and mountainous areas in the southern Kanto region over the weekend of March 8-9.
However, above-normal temperatures are expected nationwide from March 10 onward, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, which said spring weather is likely to prevail.
The agency said snow and rain were expected in the evening of March 8 and overnight. Snowfall in Tokyo is expected mainly in the Tama district, it added.
The rain and snow are expected to lift on the morning of March 9.
Temperatures approaching 20 degrees are expected in Tokyo and Osaka on some days in the week ahead.
TRAIN SERVICES AFFECTED
East Japan Railway Co. said it will cancel runs of limited express trains on the Chuo Line between Tokyo and Nagano Prefectures, starting in the afternoon due to fears of heavy snow.
This will affect the Azusa, Kaiji and Fuji Excursion express services: 13 inbound trains departing at 3:13 p.m. and later, and 12 outbound trains departing at and after 4 p.m.
Operations will be suspended between Ome and Okutama stations on the Ome Line in western Tokyo, starting around 4 p.m.
