The National Museum in Lima contains one of the largest collections of pre-columbian artefacts of the indigenous culture of the Moche, Wari and Nazca. This architecturally striking building formerly housed the Fisheries Ministry.

The Museo de la Nación is the largest of its kind in Lima. It contains many thousands of exhibits from pre-columbian contemporary history. The remains cover almost the entire history of the Peruvian population. The museum is the center for education, science and archeology. The great features include e.g. authentic photographs of riots, works of art from the past epochs and the replica of a burial chamber. On several floors and a large number of halls, special exhibitions are also shown. For special exhibitions, it may happen that special entrance fees are charged.

The country’s museum houses an approximate collection of 15,500 works, most of which are pre-hispanic, as well as metals, textiles and ceramics. The rest comes from the colonial and republican era. The collection is of archaeological, historical and ethnographic importance in Peru.

The sophisticated, modern concrete façade is an architectural feature in Lima, combining several contemporary and historic architectural styles.
