This article presents two late-medieval swords, which in no way can be called "unknown" to the scholarly world, but at the same time have remained out of the scope of researchers dealing with the problem. They are currently at the exhibitions of the small museums of the towns of Etropole and Teteven.

Swords and falchions from the Polish-Silesian-Brandenburg borderland (2nd half of the 13th-half of th 16th cent.). Preliminary thoughts2013 •
The book includes medieval swords from the Balkans and the Carpathian Basin (Pannonian Plain). The Catalogue contains data on 412 swords that come from this area, from the Alps to Istanbul, including all states of the former Yugoslavia (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia), Bulgaria, Greece and Albania and from Slovakia via Hungary, Romania and Moldova to the Black Sea. Division of the shapes and forms of the basic parts of swords is based on the typology made by Ewart Oakeshott. In addition to this division, the existing shapes were compared with the typologies of other researchers (Alexander Ruttkay, Marian Głosek, Anatolij Kirpichnikov, Alfred Geibig, Karl-Zeno Pinter and others). Considering that swords from southeastern Europe include also some characteristic finds, Oakeshott`s typology is supplemented by some new types of pommels, blades and cross-guards. Certain typological and other properties of swords are mapped in order to explore their spatial distribution. In addition to archaeological findings, in book have been used other medieval source material, such as historical written sources as well as artistic representations of swords. Illustrative part of the book contains drawings and color photos of swords, their visual representations as well as geographical and historical maps. Some of the reviews: • B. Abstract The two-edged swords are a small but significant group of the medieval material culture of Transylvania. For various subjective and objective reasons the scholarly world, which dealt with swords of the migration and the early medieval period of Europe, neglected the research of this group of swords. Although the European sword was classified in numerous types and sub-types precise definitions of date and place cannot be done. Therefore in some cases it seems more practical to look for a period during which it might have been in use than to try to date the sword or its types, even if this does not supply a certain date. Swords were widespread and very distributable objects throughout Europe and it is impossible to assign certain specific regions of origins. Since, out-of-context finds get published rarely it is our aim to publish this single find in order to make its type and details available for the researchers dealing with medieval weapons.

Находки раннесредневековых сабель «болгарского типа» в бассейне верхнего и среднего течения Днестра / Finds of early medieval sabers of “Bulgarian type” in the upper and middle Dniester basin (on the issue of Byzantine military tradition in Eastern Europe)The article describes new finds of sabers and sword-guards of the so-called “Bulgarian type,” discovered in the upper and middle Dniester basin. Until recently, sabers of this kind had been found predominantly in Bulgaria. Certain specifics of the sword-guard’s morphology and the technicality and simplicity of the artifacts allow to identify them as ones of Byzantine origin. In the author’s opinion, “Bulgarian type” sabers should be regarded as specimens of the Byzantine long-bladed weapon type known as Paramirion (παραμήριον).
