LE MONETE RACCONTANO UN DRAMMA: I TESORETTI DA TIRIOLO (CATANZARO) COME TESTIMONIANZA DELL’ESTREMA DIFESA DEI BRETTII E DI ANNIBALE CONTRO ROMA2023 •
During the excavation of a large building referable to the Brettiian culture and datable between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC at Tiriolo (Catanzaro), in the locality of Gianmartino, 110 Punic silver coins and 175 bronze coins (mostly Brettian) were recovered. The Punic coins and some groups of bronze ones were clearly grouped together, with an evident intent of hoarding. All of the coins were lost or hoarded shortly before a violent fire destroyed the building, an event almost certainly to be placed in the Hannibalic period, during the resistance by Hannibal and his Brettian allies against Rome (216-203 BC). Previous excavations in a neighbouring area had yielded the discovery of five bronze blank coins, still joined by the casting shanks, possibly documenting the existence of a mint in the area for the production of coins.

Review and critique of various TA concepts over the years. TA from Then To Now is a series of books based on Transaction Analysis (TA) training workbooks developed by Julie Hay over several years. Previously issued only as supplementary educational handouts to students and attendees of her real world and online TA training workshops and webinars, and intended as reviews and critiques of existing TA (and where appropriate, non-TA) literature. Julie uses her extensive knowledge and experience to interpret the numerous ideas, frameworks, structures and developments of TA theory, from its Bernian roots to the present day, interspersing this with her own original ideas, reviews and critiques. This series of books is Julie’s way of contributing to the spread of TA knowledge, especially to those who lack access to TA books and journals. At the same time, she hopes that reading what she has written will prompt readers to go back to some of the original publications rather than relying only on her interpretation of what another author has written.

The focus of this chapter is on practice and what informs it—the influence that Pierre Bourdieu names as the ‘habitus’—but also on how practice forms the habitus. In making explicit the potential influence of practice on habitus, we seek to extend Bourdieu’s account of how the habitus is shaped and reshaped. We illustrate these issues within the context of prescribed approaches to accountability within academic research. The chapter proceeds along three lines. First, it sets out a detailed account of Bourdieu’s conception/s of practice, the relationship between habitus and practice, and the role of pedagogic work in the formation and reformation of the habitus within fields. Comparatively little attention has been given to these matters within higher education research literature. Second, the chapter aims to extend understandings of the role of practice in re/forming the habitus, in particular in response to an agent’s own practices. Third, and in response to the first two, we explore what these concepts and their extension mean for the field of higher education, specifically in relation to academic workloads and how these determine the proportion of time allocated to research. Our intention here is to elucidate how we conceive of practice rather than to be definitive of academic workloads and their application.

Organic residue analysis was conducted on various vessels from burials at Tel Yehud, Israel. The analyses led to new reliable evidence for the presence of opioid alkaloids and their decomposition products. This research revitalizes a decades-old discussion on the presence and function of the opium trade across a cultural region of utmost significance in the Ancient Near East and the use and role of Base-Ring juglets during the Late Bronze Age IIA (14th century BCE). Furthermore, it was found that opium storage was not limited to Base-Ring juglets. Opium was possibly diluted into storage jars and juglets, signifying the importance of opium utilization at a larger scale during this period.
