The heat transfer and pressure drop analysis of conical coil heat exchanger with various tube diameters, fluid flow rates, and cone angles is presented in this paper. Fifteen coils of cone angles 180° (horizontal spiral), 135°, 90°, 45°, and 0° (vertical helical) are fabricated and analysed with, same average coil diameter, and tube length, with three different tube diameters. The experimentation is carried out with hot and cold water of flow rate 10 to 100 L per hour (Reynolds range 500 to 5000), and 30 to 90 L per hour, respectively. The temperatures and pressure drop across the heat exchanger are recorded at different mass flow rates of cold and hot fluid. The various parameters: heat transfer coefficient, Nusselt number, effectiveness, and friction factor, are estimated using the temperature, mass flow rate, and pressure drop across the heat exchanger. Ho raccolto in queste pagine il tema trattato in due incontri, tenuti dallo scrivente nell’ottobre 2017 dentro la Pieve di Codiponte,  ove ho parlato dei segni e simboli presenti in queste tre chiese della Lunigiana Orientale.  Sono circa una quindicina di segni convoglianti a mandare un unico e solo messaggio…..Un messaggio che svelerò solo alla fine.

The spiral, one of the most profound images of time, is key to our vision of evolution. This paper is an attempt to study patterns of growth and expansion identified in nature, taking the spiral as a medium, and identifying how these principles are applied in space making.

“The sacred in architecture reveals itself beside a roadside stall, while you watch your batch of hot jalebis being made. The jalebi is a fabrication of the ubiquitous spiral, hence when you sink your teeth into one, with the juice exploding in your mouth; you know what spirals taste like…”

A month before my daughter Zahra was born, I was commissioned to write on the sacred in the architecture of all religions. I had turned down the commission arguing my expertise did not extend beyond Muslim Civilizations.

When Zahra was born, my father suggested we have jalebis to celebrate! (Jalebi is a dessert made by deep frying circular shapes of maida flour batter in a cauldron of boiling oil, and then soaked in sugar syrup). While biting into a hot jalebi, with its juice bursting in my mouth, in a flash my mind connected the movement of the chef’s hand while making jalebis with rituals of movement in the practice of several religions.

“Jalebi & The Knot of Sacred Architecture” was born at that instant; one of my quickest essays, it was written in a single draft (apologies for any unintended lapses and inadvertent faux pas).

In retrospect, growing up in multicultural India, the crossroad of world religions had sufficiently exposed me to multiple religious practices..

The general spiral equation is an excellent tool in array development. However, some modifications can improve the array response for a certain range of frequencies. This work describes a different approach to the spiral equation aiming the project of a high-frequency array (20 k - 35 kHz). By constraining some of the array and measurements parameters, a geometry is proposed intending to maximize the dynamic range response at a focal point. The steps of this approach are discussed showing the results of the simulations for different parameters of this equation. Some of these parameters were fixed and for some others a parameter sweep was performed. The final geometry is intended to work with ultrasound applications, such as measurements of scale models, and also with the acoustic frequency range.

Abstract: This study approached the spiral in pre-Columbian pictography, to analyze it rigorously and show all its complexity in defining visions of the world. To this end, the spiral and its different variants are studied from linguistic anthropology, ethnolinguistics and ethnography. Finally, the results will point to the need to re-evaluate the interpretation of these rock marks in their various means of artistic reproduction, since they could strengthen, through their meaning, ethnic identity and indigenous intercultural learning.

Visual poetry is a poetry emphasising its visual component. First visual poems appear as technopaegnia, or ‘games of mind’ practice. The author of a visual poem provides the reader with a clue to the text as well as deepens the text through interaction of visual and semantic components. A variety of visual poetry forms has historical and cultural fundaments and philosophical and aesthetic meaning. Through the centuries, several images were popular for visual poems, though a simple form of spiral was rare. In a figurative sense, the spiral means permanent development and growth, if seen from inside to outside, and increasing of tension in the inevitable approach to the centre, if seen from outside to inside. Whether it is a spiral of passion, or spiral of hate, or spiral of faith, it is continuously developing, changing and rotating around the centre. As shown in this paper, evolution of poems in the form of spiral generally coincides with the evolution of other visual poems, passing through the same stages of being sacred poem, intellectual poem, amusing poem, avant-garde poem, and children poem. On the other hand, spiral visual poetry has its own characteristic features, such as large time gaps, very rare appearance until the early 20th century, and a surge of interest in the modern era.

BACKGROUND: In this work recombinant gp-41 protein production by E. coli in an unconventional bioreactor coupled with a magnetic field generator was studied. The submerged fermentation process was carried out by fed-batch operation, recycling the culture medium externally through a stainless steel spiral U-shape tube inserted on the inside of a magnetic field generator. The exposure time and magnetic field induction were varied in a range from 1 to 12 h and 10 to 100 mT, respectively, according to a central composite design with centered face.RESULTS: It was found that the inhibitory or stimulatory effect of magnetic field on cell growth and protein production depended on exposure time and magnetic field strength. The production of recombinant gp41 protein was 20% higher than the control.CONCLUSION The procedure here presented could be an easy-to-use approach to improve the efficiency of recombinant protein production by E. coli. In the context of Jungian psychology the author explores embodiment through dance, focusing on a traditional Greek dance of ancient origins  - possibly Minoan - performed in a spiral formation, examining the symbolism of spiral and labyrinth.  Originally the material was presented with slides.

Yine hormonal etki sayesinde spermlerin bir yumurtaya tutunarak ona yapışıp dölleme oluşturmasını engelleyerek de gebeliği önlerler. The stitched and quilted 'intimate textiles' artwork titled Áine was started pre-lockdown in January 2020 on a two-week residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Ireland. I wrote about the design:

"The spirals come from the Neolithic Tomb of Newgrange in Ireland where the midwinter sun penetrates the seventeen feet long chamber deep into the earth and illuminates a carved stone - this only happens on the winter solstice, and only 12 people are allowed on the site and in the chamber before dawn on 21 December. I was there on the 1996 solstice. I was 'bumped up' the incredibly long list by a lovely civil servant in Dublin who acknowledged that Northern Ireland was edging towards the end of the "Troubles" (in 1998) by telling me that "we need to help our brothers and sisters in the North". And so I got into that chamber long before dawn, and we silently watched a grey finger of light creep into the dark and lengthen until it tickled that inner stone. Spirals are female and zigzags are male. The materials are 'intimate textiles', worn on bodies and then discarded, so corsets, lingerie, nighties, bras, slips, suspenders for stockings, and my pricked finger added a drop of my blood... So, in here are my concerns: women, intimacy, sex, death, birth, Ireland and its conflicts, stains and blood, and of course an under-current of shame which goes alongside all the rest....

Özet İnternetle birlikte topluma yayılmaya başlayan yeni teknolojiler ve özellikle de iletişim teknolojileri toplum yapısında önemli değişimlere yol açmaya başlamıştır. Günümüzde neredeyse her ortamda internete erişimin olması, bireylerin sürekli olarak mobil araçlara başvurması ve iletişim halinde olma yönündeki isteği en nihayetinde akıllı telefonların yaşamın büyük bir parçası olarak atfedilmesine yol açmıştır. Yeni teknolojileri denemek/satın almak için sabırsızca bekleyen bireylerin bu teknolojilere katılma yönünde oldukça gönüllü olması da toplumda akla gelen en keskin değişimlerdendir. Yapılan araştırmalar geleneksel medya araçlarının Z kuşağı bireylerine ya da dijital yerlilere fazla bir anlam ifade etmediğini göstermektedir. Bu bağlamda teknoloji çağında yetişip yeni medya ekolojisini benimseyen öğrencilerle dolu bir odaya geleneksel medya araçları çerçevesinden konuşmak pek de ilgi çekici gelmemektedir. Yeni medya araçlarını hayatlarının odak noktasına yerleştirenler için bir iletişim döngüsü söz konusudur. La série montre aussi comment les individus, qu’ils soient policiers, avocats, juges, etc., ne sont que les rouages d’une machine sociale en crise et dont la marge de manœuvre est de plus en plus limitée. Attentive aux détails dans un souci naturaliste de réalisme, elle tient compte de l’actualité en illustrant directement et concrètement les conséquences chaotiques des politiques néolibérales menées depuis sa création. On pourrait dire d’elle ce que Chesterton disait des romans policiers : « En s’intéressant aux sentinelles infatigables qui gardent les avant-postes de la société, elle nous rappelle que nous vivons dans un camp retranché, livrant une guerre contre un monde chaotique ».

In this paper we have tried to deduce the possible origin of particle and evolution of their intrinsic properties through spiral dynamics.  We consider some of the observations which include exponential mass function of particles following a sequence when fitted on logarithmic potential spiral, inwardly rotating spiral dynamics in Reaction-Diffusion System, the separation of Electron’s Spin-Charge-Orbit into quasi-particles. The paper brings a picture of particles and their Anti Particles in spiral form and explains how the difference in structure varies their properties. It also explains the effects on particles in Accelerator deduced through spiral dynamics.
