Semantic Changes, Figurative Meaning

The objective of this research is to highlight the lexical semantic meaning and analysis of forensic linguistics on Ratna Sarumpaet’s persecution case in online media. The research method used descriptive qualitative. Data analysis was taken from lexical semantics from all statements spoken and written in media online. The results of forensic linguisticsshowed that there was a hoax given by FadliZon, HanumRais, Prabowo, Dahnil and Nanik on Ratna Sarumpaet’s persecution case. The data was collected by researchers using social media online. It was concluded that; (1) There was no Ratna Sarumpaet’s persecution case. (2) There was no international conference that was visited by Ratna Sarumpaet. (3) There was no patient with the name Ratna Sarumpaet in the Cimahi Hospital. (4) The bruises on Ratna’s face were not persecution case but plastic surgery and (5) There was no persecution in International Airport of Husein Sastra Negara in Bandung.

Translation of Legal Texts between Arabic and English:
The Case Study of Marriage Contracts

Abstract
Over decades, there used to be a number of studies on Legal translation since it was one of the most challenging issues for translators and it still a critical and authoritative translation produced by legal bodies. Actually, translating legal texts might raise some problems in translation pertaining to the differences between the Source and Target Texts. Thus, it can result in a certain amount of ambiguity with respect to the legal texts, as it belongs to people’s beliefs and cultures. This study investigates the quality of the translated message from Arabic into English. Hence, the focus is on the changes of the message in the translation process that is attributable to functional & verbal equivalence in Arabic and English as well. The study will rely on Baker’s theory (1992) to examine whether the semantic changes affect the quality of the translated message in terms of equivalence, along with Newmark methods (1988) in translation. The study will analyse as well five different forms of marriage contracts translated by different native translators in the Arabic as a source language and their correspondence into English as a target language, in order to identify the cultural and linguistic equivalence by using functional comparisons between the Arabic and English legal systems.

This contribution addresses semantic change in ceramics as connected to identity construction. With three case studies from Hellenistic Etruria, beaked situlae, lagynoi and amphorae, I aim to answer the following research question: How can a change of vessel functions in funerary contexts express the changing cultural identities of the deceased and their family? The choice of fu-nerary contexts allows an approximation of the change of meaning through the analysis of the distance between daily life and ritual function of the objects. Each case study presents a different relationship between changing meaning and identity construction: the beaked situlae, related to the social identity of new social layers; the amphorae, related to local cultural identities during the process of Romanisation; and the lagynoi, related to the construction of multicultural identities in new-founded agricultural settlements. The distinct patterns of the three forms suggest the possibility of analysing stratified and complex societies by the study of changing meaning.
