Paper Abstract This research explores how strategic planning activity and conventional performance indicators affect the perceived success of online strategy within SMEs. The research plans to use a survey of small retailers to determine the performance signals that most influence perceived success of an online retail strategy.

Many developing countries are formulating strategies intended to exploit the opportunities offered by e-commerce. One fundamental strategy which often seems to be ignored, or is unachievable by many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries is to ensure that they have a sophisticated e-commerce website. In this paper, the readiness of e-commerce websites in Barbados is determined by evaluating ninety-eight websites across eight service sectors using the CEC Website Evaluation Framework. The findings show that although these websites were easy to use and provided some product/service information they generally lack company information, innovation in services, transaction processing, and customer services. In addition, the banking sector had the highest ranking websites, followed by online shops, real estate, car rentals, tour operators, accommodation, restaurants and insurance. Based on these results, a set of recommendations have been proposed which are intended to promote the growth of e-commerce. A similar study should be conducted by any government, SME or stakeholder interested in evaluating the implementation phase of e-commerce in their country.

Untuk dapat menghasilkan informasi yang benar (aktual) diperlukan pengelolaan terhadap data-data mentah. Pengelolaan ini seringkali memakan waktu dan biaya yang cukup tinggi terlebih jika dilakukan masih secara manual. Untuk itu solusi alternatif yang efektif berupa sistem informasi sekolah online berbasis website yang dapat diakses kapan saja dan dimana saja, sehingga pihak sekolah akan lebih mudah memantau prestasi, sikap dan perkembangan siswa dari waktu ke waktu bahkan orang tua atau wali murid juga dapat memantau perkembangan prestasi anaknya secara aktual dan up to date. Untuk itu diharapkan sekolah kedepannya lebih siap bersaing dengan sekolah lain karena memiliki keunggulan-keunggulan yang tidak dimiliki sekolah lain, disamping itu sekolah lebih siap menyongsong era informasi yang lambat laun akan menjadi kebutuhan yang sangat penting. 2. LANDASAN TEORI 1. System Development Life Cycle System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) dapat dianggap sebagai kerangka kerja formal tertua metodologi untuk membangun sistem informasi. Ide utama dari SDLC adalah "untuk mengejar pengembangan sistem informasi dalam cara yang terstruktur dan metodis, yang mengharuskan tahap life cycle dari mulai ide awal sampai pada pengiriman tahap final sistem, untuk dilaksanakan secara beraturan". Salah satu tipe SDLC yang paling awal dan paling banyak digunakan adalah metode Waterfall. Waterfall method sering dianggap sebagai pendekatan klasik dengan siklus hidup pengembangan sistem. Pembangunan dengan metode Waterfall memiliki tujuan yang berbeda untuk setiap fase pembangunan. Setelah fase pembangunan selesai, hasil pengembangan ke tahap berikutnya dan tidak ada jalan kembali. Keuntungan dari pembangunan air terjun adalah bahwa hal itu memungkinkan untuk departmentalization dan kontrol manajerial. Sebuah jadwal bisa diatur dengan tenggat waktu untuk setiap tahap pengembangan dan produk dapat dilanjutkan melalui proses pengembangan seperti mobil di carwash, dan secara teoritis, akan dikirimkan tepat waktu. Kerugian dari pembangunan air terjun adalah bahwa hal itu tidak memungkinkan untuk banyak refleksi atau revisi. Setelah aplikasi adalah dalam tahap pengujian, sangat sulit untuk kembali dan mengubah sesuatu yang tidak dipikirkan baik-dalam tahap konsep. In this paper, we present the results of an analysis of Jumia and Kon-ga, (the two biggest E-Commerce stores in Africa) to highlight personalization techniques they implemented using framework for E-Commerce personaliza-tion. We also compared how personalized experiences are uniquely provided to each customer using the traces of user's purchase history, browsing history, user preferences, on-site behaviour, and personal data. Results show that Jumia and Konga employ various personalization techniques to boost loyalty among African audiences, improve conversion rates, and increase sales. Our findings could guide designers and relevant stakeholders on how to personalize E-Commerce experiences and other related sites to appeal to African audience.

The purpose of the study was to indicate to South African business that by including Web 2.0 features on their sites, they could benefit from the business potential that Web 2.0 offers. In this research project, an empirical study has been done to determine the extent to which South African business websites have Web 2.0 features. A literature survey has revealed that the World Wide Web has evolved from Web 1.0 which is essentially a passive-user state, to Web 2.0 that is an interactive user experience. This has encouraged a phenomenon known as Digital Social Networking (DSN) where like-minded users share amongst others, information, pictures and movies. This has given rise to the popularity of several DSN sites like Facebook, MXit and Myspace. While much of this DSN has been used for recreational purposes, various international businesses have adapted their conventional websites into interactive DSN websites. These businesses have also indicated some business benefits that they have derived from their transformation to Web 2.0 features. The research methodology included a survey of relevant literature and an empirical study of South African business websites. The sample consisted of the top 100 South African businesses based on their turnover and status in their respective sectors. The results of the survey indicated that 91 of the top 100 companies had websites. Of these 91 companies, only 5.5% had at least one Web 2.0 feature on their website. This survey proves that despite the apparent benefits which can be derived from Web 2.0 applications, South African businesses have been tardy in adopting these technologies. As a conclusion, the study has shown that South African businesses lag behind their international counterparts in transforming their conventional websites into interactive DSN websites. Furthermore, the research has also indicated that as a result of their delay in adapting their websites, South African business has not benefited from the business potential which Web 2.0 offers.

Abstract The Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM) is an evaluation tool specifically created for the assessment of electronic commerce applications. The method is based on an evaluation grid that includes a set of criteria with which to appraise the quality and success of e-commerce applications. The focus is on consumer perspectives and the specific features of the Internet as a medium. In this paper, we used the EWAM tool for a comparative analysis of Australian and Swiss e-shops selling grocery products.
