Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a vastly different way to design and deliver buildings when compared to the traditional two dimensional approach that has been used for decades. The use of BIM requires a different set of design processes. However, many within the design and construction industry merely see BIM as a new type of software.

Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Systems can account for 40‐60% of the total project value of a building.  Therefore the successfully delivery of MEP systems has a major impact on the buildings outcome, as well as its performance over its life cycle. BIM is being seen as the solution to rid the MEP industry of the inefficiencies that plague the profession.

This research projects main aim was to identify how the process of MEP design needs to change in order to fully realise the perceived benefits of BIM. Individuals working within the construction industry were surveyed in order to obtain their opinions
In order for MEP designers to realise the true benefits of BIM there are some key changes to design process that need to be implemented. These changes can be summarises as follows:
• Early installation contractor involvement.
• Early consideration of pre fabrication for MEP systems.
• Fees to be redistributed to be in line with design effort.
• Design engineer involvement in production of project 3D models.

El cumplimiento de los objetivos del proyecto, es un aspecto perseguido por todas las empresas constructoras. En la actualidad, Building Information Modeling (BIM) y su integración con un sistema Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), aportan varios mecanismos para mejorar la calidad de lo construido y favorecer la consecución de los
objetivos del proyecto. La combinación de estos dos sistemas de gestión, favorece la detección de incidencias que se puedan presentar durante la fase de diseño que es la fase donde existe un mayor margen de actuación ante posibles adversidades. Una detección de incongruencias posterior, es decir, durante la ejecución del proyecto, requiere la aplicación de soluciones más costosas y el estancamiento del flujo de trabajo, provocando retrasos en la construcción del proyecto y como consecuencia, un
aumento en costes. En este trabajo, se analizarán las propiedades y características de estos dos sistemas de gestión de una forma teórica. Por otra parte, se desarrollará un caso de estudio, en donde se realizará la revisión de un proyecto real mediante BIM, con la intención de detectar las posibles incidencias que se puedan presentar en el mismo y poder solventarlas antes de iniciar la fase de ejecución.

Within the traditional procurement system, level of achievement of client and contractor objectives may vary depending on the type of procurement used. This may further create a gap between the expected and actual performance of the project. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is the modern development of the procurement systems in the industry where collaborative innovation is the path used to achieve the goals of a project. Appreciable characteristics and benefits of this concept convert the construction industry towards it. It is observed that United States of America is the first to develop and implement this concept specially focusing on the public sector. Although, the concept is not yet popular around the world, it is likely that the clients will demand for it in future due to economic and managerial advantages it brings. Thus it is important that an industry be prepared to adapt the system as and when the need arises. Identifying this need, a literature synthesis on requisites and barriers for successful implementation of IPD is presented in this paper. The findings shall become valuable source for any construction industry to assess their readiness and take necessary steps to be ready to implement IPD system successfully.

Building Information Modelling is not only a tool, but also the process of creation, maintenance, distribution and co-ordination of an integrated database that collaboratively stores 2D and 3D information, with embedded physical and functional data within a project-building model. The uptake of BIM within the UK Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry has been slow since the 1980’s, but over recent years, adoptions have increased. The increased collaborative nature of BIM, external data sharing techniques and progressively complex building design, promotes requirements for design teams to coordinate and communicate more effectively to achieve project goals. To manage this collaboration, new or evolved job roles may emerge. This research examined the current use of BIM, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and collaborative working in the UK AEC industry and job roles that have evolved or been created to cater for them. Using semi-structured interviews the interviewees indicated while several of the key enablers of IPD were being used, IPD itself had not been fully adopted. BIM was being used with some success but improvements could be made. New job roles such as the BIM Engineer and BIM Coordinator had been seen in the industry and evidence that the Architectural Technologist (AT) role is evolving into a more multidisciplinary role; this reflects similar findings of recent research.

Architectural heritage conservation projects are one of the most risky and complex projects in the construction industry. Many studies have reported frequent performance failures in terms of time, cost and quality. To implement a quality management in the conservation projects and enhance their performance; we propose the adoption of two emerging and innovative approaches: Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM). Through an analysis of literature review (journals, white papers, norms and standards) on the subject, a comprehensive qualitative study in theoretical term has been carried out to define the potential advantages of the synergy between the BIM and IPD to face conservation issues and constraints through project lifecycle. Finally, we draw some general conclusions, summarize the implications for practice and set out recommendations for further research.

BIM has been discussed widely for enabling collaboration in AEC professions. Its widespread benefits from efficiency to sustainability in design and construction converted it into a primary tool in most AEC education institutions in the last decade. However, Turkey, like a part of the central Europe, remains hesitant in this concern. The majority of schools of architecture have conventional curricula based on fragmented areas of expertise studied separately with disconnected contents, teaching methods, and requirements. This separation not only prevents the students from building links between different contents of sustainable design, but also increases their work load while decreasing their creative potential. Regarding the necessity for collaboration in the growing complexity of built environments, underdeveloped skills in building links between fragmented data bases is eventually becoming a serious problem.
After scrutinizing the fragmented curricula of the schools of architecture in Turkey, in comparison with the integral examples from around the globe, the potentiality of a BIM based transformation is going to be discussed. In order to build a strategy to redesign a curriculum of integration, apparent obstacles and potentials are going to be evaluated, with example cases for the use of BIM as a medium to include environmental and structural information in the design solutions from the second and third year students of architecture at Başkent University. This study is expected to demonstrate how provoking the skill to employ BIM can be to integrate creative educational experience in architecture, at the center of which remains the design studio. The discussion concludes by suggesting pathways to catch up with the growing gap between the global evolutions of interdisciplinary and integral design thinking through the use of BIM in AEC education.

Cloud is in the air. More and More companies and personals are connecting to cloud with so many variety
of offering provided by the companies. The cloud services are based on Internet i.e. TCP/IP. The paper
discusses limitations of one of the main existing network management protocol i.e. Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP) with respect to the current network conditions. The network traffic is
growing at a high speed. When we talk about the networked environment of cloud, the monitoring tool
should be capable of handling the traffic tribulations efficiently and represent a correct scenario of the
network condition. The proposed Model ‘Cloud Network Management Model (CNMM)’ provides a
comprehensive solution to manage the growing traffic in cloud and trying to improve communication of
manager and agents as in SNMP (the traditional TCP/IP network management protocol). Firstly CNMM
concentrates on reduction of packet exchange between manager and agent. Secondly it eliminates the
counter problems exist in SNMP by having periodic updates from agent without querying by the manager.
For better management we are including managers using virtualized technology. CNMM is a proposed
model with efficient communication, secure packet delivery and reduced traffic. Though the proposed
model supposed to manage the cloud traffic in a better and efficient way, the model is still a theoretical
study, its implementation and results are yet to discover. The model however is the first step towards
development of supported algorithms and protocol. Our further study will concentrate on development of
supported algorithms.

In the AEC industry, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a contractual paradigm shift that encourages project parties to change the nature of their relationships by sharing risks and rewards through integration and collaboration in design and construction processes. Through its ever-increasing application, IPD has changed roles, responsibilities, and participation of architects and design firms in projects. While the existing literature has shown how an IPD context is different from traditional project delivery methods, very little research has focused on the changes integrated practices are causing in the architectural domain. To fill this gap, we review prior research to identify, extract, and report perceptions of integrated practices and their impact on architectural practice and compare these to IPD concepts and definitions. The main goal of this study is to offer some important insights into often unnoticed and non-obvious changes in architects’ roles and influence in integrated practices. The study examines four thematic comparisons between existing literature and IPD definitions in collaboration processes, project leadership and management, means and methods of team communication, and risks and liabilities. From these comparisons, we conclude that integrated practices have changed architects’ roles and responsibilities in terms of design leadership, design decision making, contractual transactions, and design control of architectural quality. The implications for architectural practice are considered by addressing risks and opportunities. The outcomes of IPD in terms of the concerns of architects and industry participants’ perceptions deserve to be addressed by how integrated practices are defined, promoted, and advanced through the AEC industry.

The extensive use of Internet and network based information resources on a global scale has led to the rise in a wide range of security incidents. One such attack is a TCP-SYN DoS attack, which makes use of IP-Spoofing for its effectiveness. This paper presents a robust scheme for filtering spoofed DoS IP Packets in the Internet. We have proposed a robust filtering algorithm namely, Victim Based Statistical Filtering in this paper. The algorithm is inspired from the Hop-Count Filtering (HCF) method, which uses a co-relation between IP addresses and their respective hop-counts to the destination server, to filter out the spoofed IP packets from the legitimate ones. The variation that we have proposed is adding the monitoring information of the usage levels of port numbers of the destination machine (victim), in the HCF Algorithm. The proposed VBSF algorithm was empirically evaluated and it was found to exhibit better performance than its predecessor.

O método de pesquisa adotado para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho é classificado como qualitativo e foi realizado por meio de estudos de caso. Os resultados obtidos com a realização da pesquisa comprovaram a eficácia do método da PEO e a sua viabilidade enquanto potencializador na melhoria da gestão da interface projeto-execução de obras. Portanto, conclui-se que a PEO é viável de ser aplicada em empresas de incorporação e construção de edifícios. ABSTRACT During the last twenty years the construction field in Brazil has evolved significantly in response to its market growing and competitiveness. However this evolving path has faced many obstacles such as cultural barriers and the lack of efforts to achieve quality at the construction site. As one of the causes of this facts the lack of integration between construction and the designing process generates waste, pathologies, rework and improvised changes originated by non-detected clashes in design which were taken by incapacitated personnel at an inadequate moment. At the same time, the great amount of information generated on the designing or construction phases is lost due to the lack of an effective coordination of these activities. Thus the aim of this research is to implement the Building Pre-Construction Management (PEO) seeking to understand the management of the designing process in its interface with the construction site. The research method applied on the development of the analysis is classified as qualitative and it will be carried out through the studied cases and the evaluation of its results.
