The food at nutrition breaks is not funded by the state unless it's for low income students.
In Oxnard two districts have decided to allow everyone to "qualify" for free breakfast. My thought is why aren't the parents feeding their kids? The same with nutrition break in high school, it isn't needed, paid for or not by the taxpayers. Kids are out of shape and don't need to be eating more. For years kids ate breakfast at home. Many of them brought a lunch in a lunch pail or a brown bag. Not too hard to pack a PB and J sandwich, an apple, a drink, and some cookies or something.

I don't know if you noticed or not, but nobody has any money. There are kids out there that are literally starving at night and look forward to that meal in the morning.

Why is there such a every man for himself attitude on the internet when people are behind there keyboards? If we don't help the poor, the sick or the old what separates us from any other species(no one better say our opposable thumbs)?

That being said, Prop 30 will do nothing to help the kids. Prop 30 gets government off the hook, not the kids.

Because I really don't care about most of the people living in CA. This state is a patchwork quilt of peoples -- almost half of them don't even speak English in public here in Los Angeles. Why should I care about these people? They're not "my people", so as far as I'm concerned, I really don't care anymore about lofty egalitarian ideals. Hands off my money. Don't have enough of your own? I don't care anymore. Don't go away mad, just go away.

Answer: people who cannot afford kids, should not have them. Period.

And, if helping the poor, sick and old is so important, then why don't you put your money where your mouth is. Sell everything you own, deplete your bank accounts, and write a big check to the American Red Cross, UNICEF, your local church, or any organization of your choosing who will give resources to these groups.

Those starving kids? If it's so important to you, then why the hell haven't you invited them into your home and prepared breakfast for scores of them? If you believe what you posit, i.e. differentiating our species depends on feeding these starving kids or the sick, then you should have been taking all manner of action yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Why aren't you feeding them? Why aren't you purchasing them breakfast? Why aren't you spearheading an effort, using your own resources, to help all these starving kids?

So put your money where your mouth is. Do something. Cancel the cable bill and internet connection, sell your computer, and give that money to the starving kids you profess to care so much about.

Probably didn't notice. I do some volunteer work with low income kids. Many times there is no food in the house.

One of our kids had cereal for dinner the night before. Another had nothing to eat, another had crackers. Many of these kids have single parents with minimum wage jobs, several relatives living with them, lots of younger brothers and sisters, a parent who abandoned the family, etc, etc.

You may give me a frown, but you didn't answer the question. When directly confronted with the prospect of giving up your material goods and financial well-being to feed the "literally starving" children you profess to care so much about -- and worse, demand that all of us care about -- you respond with silence.

So it's fine to raise taxes and have other people pick up the tab, and use other people's money. But when asked, directly, why you are not doing these things with your money voluntarily, you respond with some sophomoric emoticon.

Telling.

I find it appalling that anyone would decide not to feed hungry children - no matter if they're black, brown, white, spotted, or zebra striped! The land of plenty isn't so plentiful anymore. If you just search "poverty in America", you'll find some eye-opening reports. It's so easy to say that people shouldn't have so many children, but once those children are here, would you really let them starve?

Starve? BS. Fact is that the poorest 5% in the US are better off than the top 95% in India. This starving scare stuff does not work anymore. The biggest health problem among the poor in the US is being too fat.
