This DIY wooden heart candle holder is a quick and easy DIY Valentine's Day decor idea to help set the mood for your loved one!
I swear, I see these candle holders everywhere. They are all over Pinterest and Etsy and even in stores.
But I didn't want to buy one, so I decided to make one.
Making this DIY heart candle holder was quick and easy and is a great scrap wood project for Valentine's Day.
How to make a wood heart candle holder
Anyone that has a scrap 2x6 (or even a couple of 2x4s) and a jig saw can make this heart candle holder. It's really easy.
Let's break it down and show you how to make it yourself!
Materials needed
Here's the materials and tools you'll need to make this DIY wood heart candle holder!
- scrap 2x6, about 8" long
- pink, red, or white wood stain or paint
- drill and ¾" drill bit
- jig saw
- tapered candles
Step one: cut wood
Start by cutting your scrap 2x6 to 8" long. Then trace a 4" tall heart exactly centered and 1" up from the bottom of the board.
Next, cut the board in half down the middle of the heart. Finally, cut the top 2" off of the board on the right side of the heart.
Step two: cut out heart
Use your jig saw to cut the two halves of the heart out of the boards. It works best to clamp the boards down in place so you can cut them out safely.
Step three: drill holes
Next, drill a hole about ¾" down into the top of each half. Initially, I drilled a 1" wide hole thinking that would fit a tea light candle. It did not.
So, I drilled a ¾" hole inside of that and was able to use a standard taper candle instead!
Step four: stain
Finally, I sanded both pieces down and then stained them with pink Unicorn Spit wood stain.
I like the Unicorn Spit stains because the colors are so vibrant, which works especially well in a case like this project.
Here's some tips for specifically applying Unicorn Spit stains!
Step five: impress your date
Add your tapered candles into the hole and push the two halves together to make your heart!
These two blocks come together to create the wooden heart candle and it looks so fun. This is a great decor idea and even better for Valentine's Day date night!
