The 1986 BMW 535i 4-door sedan sold new for $31,200 and was powered by the same engine found in the 635CSi, 735i, and the luxury 7-series named the Luxus (or L7). The powerplant was an overhead cam six-cylinder unit displacing 209 cubic-inches and offering just over 180 horsepower. It had a five-speed manual gearbox with overdrive or an optional four-speed automatic. Changes were very minimal over the prior year, except for the new selectable-shift provision on the optional automatic.
