The Secret Service is a 2012 spy comic book series written by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. It deals with a super-spy recruiting his young nephew to the secret service, channeling the classic James Bond films, and other famous spy thrillers.

Plot

An unknown group of terrorists abduct Mark Hamill, a famous Hollywood actor, who is held against his will at a cabin in the mountains in Switzerland. A man shows up and identifies himself as a British secret service agent, and rescues Hamill. They are unsuccessfully pursued by terrorists on snowmobiles. As Hamill and the agent reach the edge of a cliff, they jump off with a parachute, but it turns out to be a misfortune as the parachute opens up too late and both of them crash to their deaths.

Sir Giles, the head of MI6, discusses the matter with one of his agents, Jack London, as there have been several kidnappings of famous celebrities which are believed to be linked to each other. Suddenly, Jack receives a call from his sister-in-law, who tells him that her son, Gary, was arrested by the police for smashing up a stolen car, and that Jack needs to bail him out. Jack, at first, opposes the idea, but reluctantly uses his national security card to get the boy out of prison.

A secret service describes a government agency, intelligence agency, or the activities of a government agency, concerned with the gathering of intelligence data. The tasks and powers of a secret service can vary greatly from one country to another. For instance, a country may establish a secret service which has some policing powers (such as surveillance) but not others. The powers and duties of a government organization may be partly secret and partly not. The organization may be said to operate openly at home and secretly abroad, or vice versa. Secret police and intelligence agencies can usually be considered secret services.

The French police officer Joseph Fouché is sometimes regarded as the primary pioneer within secret intelligence. Among other things, he is alleged to have prevented several murder attempts on Napoleon during his time as First Consul Bonaparte (1799-1804) through a large and tight net of various informers.

Secret Service is a budget-title first-person tactical shooter computer game released in 2001. The title's disclaimer states that it is in no way affiliated with or approved by the United States Secret Service.

Premise

The player is an American Secret Service agent who must complete 16 single player missions. You start out as a rookie protecting government officials. As you gain experience from completing the operations, you will be assigned higher profile missions. The final mission is protecting the President of the United States.

Gameplay

Secret Service is a first-person tactical shooter, similar to the Rainbow Six computer game series. Players must progress through a mission while accomplishing various mission objectives, such as eliminating terrorists or protecting dignitaries.

The combat in Secret Service is slightly more forgiving than in many other tactical shooters, as the player can survive several bullet hits before dying (assuming they are equipped with heavy body armor), as opposed to dying after only 1 or 2 shots like in many other tactical shooters.

The Secret (Czech: Tajemství) is a comic opera in three acts by Bedřich Smetana. The libretto was written by Eliška Krásnohorská. The premiere took place on 18 September 1878 at the Nové České Divadlo (New Czech Theatre) in Prague.

Background

Krásnohorská proposed the idea for a new opera to Smetana two weeks after the opening of The Kiss, but kept details of the plot a secret from the composer until July 1877, when a draft outline, drawing on several sources, including Les femmes et le secret by La Fontaine, was sent to him. The librettist had set the action in the small town of Bĕlá in the Bezdĕz mountains, visible from Smetana's home in the country. Fighting his increasing deafness and resultant depression, Smetana made a few small changes to Krásnohorská's original draft and delivered a full score to the New Czech Theatre on 4 August 1877, for the premiere in September. The through composition evident in The Brandenburgers in Bohemia and Libuše is absent; a pot-pourri overture prefaces a sequence of choruses, duets, arias and ensemble pieces, but the characters are portrayed with more feeling and drawn from life, rather than the more stock characters of The Bartered Bride and The Two Widows.

Plot

Nick Delaney, an American stranded in England without money, meets a woman who has smuggled diamonds into the country inside a teddy bear. But his hopes for financial aid are shattered when she is pushed from a cliff. Delaney then finds himself the prime suspect. He finally gets his hands on the gems but loses them to a gang of crooks. Can Delaney prove his innocence and shop the crooks to the police?
