"Too Much Information" is the third single released from Duran Duran's 1993 album, Duran Duran, popularly known as The Wedding Album.

About the song

The song's lyrics deal mainly with the commercialisation of the music industry and feature the tongue-in-cheek line "Destroyed by MTV / I hate to bite the hand that feeds me / so much information", alluding to the belief that MTV were largely responsible for the band's success in the United States in the early 1980s.

In the UK, "Too Much Information" became the band's third Top 40 single from the album. The song fared poorly on the U.S. Billboard pop and adult contemporary charts , though performed much better on the alternative rock and club charts.

Music video

The video for "Too Much Information" was filmed by director Julien Temple in Santa Monica on 27 August and featured the elaborate stage setup designed for the band's 1993 Dilate Your Mind tour.

B-sides, bonus tracks and remixes

The cassette and CD singles were released on 23 August 1993, and those who bought the cassette single received a free No Ordinary EP cassette with live tracks ("Hungry Like the Wolf", "Notorious", "Come Undone"), recorded during a performance at Tower Records a few months before. These recordings also appeared as bonus tracks on various global CD releases of the single.

Album information

The album was mainly recorded at the band's studio but initially started at the studio of Peter and David Brewis of Field Music, in an interview front man Paul Smith describes what the brothers brought to some of the tracks they worked on for the record.

"Dave kind of took the reins in terms of engineering. He would say “what sort of sound do you want” we said “yeah maybe a round bass sound”. Peter Brewis played a bit of marimba on a couple of the songs. So they added a bit of their musical knowledge to the whole thing."

The bulk of the album was recorded by the band's guitarist Duncan Lloyd at the band's own studio in Newcastle during the end 2013.

The album included contributions from Dave Okumu from the The Invisible and was mixed by Nicolas Vernhes who previously worked with Deerhunter on Monomania. B-sides from the album campaign include "A Vague Implication" (from "Leave This Island") and "When I'm Alone" (from "Midnight On The Hill").

"Too Much" is a #1 song recorded in a hit version by Elvis Presley and published by Elvis Presley Music in 1956. It was written by Bernard Weinman and Lee Rosenberg. It was first recorded in 1954 by Bernard Hardison on Republic Records. Elvis Presley recorded the song in September 1956 and first performed it on January 6, 1957 on CBS-TV's "The Ed Sullivan Show." Released as a single, Presley's "Too Much" reached number one on both the Cashbox and Billboard sales charts and went to number three on the R&B chart. The single peaked at number two on the then-named Top 100 chart, the main Billboard pop chart.

1998–1999

The duo of "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher and "Too Hot" Scott Taylor were originally a tag team known as Too Much. The team feuded with fellow light heavyweight wrestlers such as Taka Michinoku and aided Jerry "The King" Lawler (Christopher's father) in his feud with Al Snow.

In June 1999, Christopher became Grandmaster Sexay, Taylor became Scotty Too Hotty (later spelled as Scotty 2 Hotty) and Too Much was rebranded as Too Cool, debuting on television during the June 13, 1999 episode of Sunday Night Heat. They originally remained villainous characters, but in late 1999, around the time Rikishi Fatu joined the team, they turned into fan favorites due to growing fan popularity. Too Cool's new characteristic was that of hip hop fans, which saw the duo dancing around the ring while lights flashed and dance music played, an act that quickly became very popular with fans.
