Roslindale Village is a passenger rail station on the MBTA Commuter Rail Needham Line, located in the Roslindale Square business district of Roslindale, Massachusetts.
It was originally built by the Boston and Providence Railroad, and contained two station houses. Currently, it is located across the tracks from Roslindale Village/Roslindale Square itself, near the Boston School of Modern Languages, the Bay State Society of Model Engineers, and various local businesses. South Street runs into the parking lots on both sides of the tracks, but does not cross the tracks, although a very old pedestrian underpass allows the sidewalk to continue between these two stretches of South Street.
This station is fully wheelchair accessible.
Roslindale Square is an important bus transfer location; nine MBTA Bus routes run on Washington Street between Forest Hills and Roslindale, then fan out to the south and west. Five of these routes (plus the 14 which terminates at Roslindale Square) serve the station directly via Belgrade Avenue:
Roslindale is a primarily residential neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, bordered by Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, West Roxbury and Mattapan. It is served by an MBTA Commuter Rail line, several MBTA bus lines and the MBTA Orange Line in nearby Jamaica Plain. Roslindale has its own branch of the Boston Public Library, the neighborhood is covered by Boston Police District E-5 in West Roxbury, Boston EMS Ambulance 17 is stationed in Roslindale, and the Boston Fire Department has a station on Canterbury Street which houses Ladder 16, Engine 53 & District Chief 12. Roslindale's original fire company, Engine 45, was deactivated on April 10, 1981 due to budget cuts. The portion of the Arnold Arboretum south of Bussey Street is located in Roslindale.
Six miles south-southwest of downtown Boston, Roslindale was originally part of the town of Roxbury. In 1851, current day Jamaica Plain, Roslindale and West Roxbury seceded from Roxbury. The area voted in 1873 to be annexed to the City of Boston.
