Standing Up may refer to:

Standing Up (also known as Goat Island) is a 2013 American coming-of-age film written and directed by D. J. Caruso, starring Chandler Canterbury and Annalise Basso, and based on Brock Cole's 1987 Young Adult novel The Goats.

Plot

Two kids, Howie (Chandler Canterbury) and Grace (Annalise Basso), are stripped naked and left stranded together on an island as victims of a vicious summer camp prank. But rather than returning to camp to face the humiliation, they decide to take off, on the run together. Grace does not know how to swim, so she holds onto a broken tree branch as he swims across the lake.

They are soon washed onto a shore near a cottage. Howie goes to the lake and spots three men headed toward the shore in a boat. He decides to take a camera and a notepad to keep track of everything they steal in order to return it to its rightful owner along with an explanation of why it was taken. They continue of their journey and encounter a group of teenagers partying and drinking near a beach. Howie grabs some money out of one of the trucks much to Grace's disapproval. They take a break on a family beach where they purchase a hot dog and a bag of chips. They also devise a plan to steal some new clothes. As they are walking through town later that day, they spot one of their camp counselors handing out pictures of them to the locals as well as the police. They get on a bus that is rounding up a group of kids for a different camp.

Brian Joseph Regan (/ˈriːɡən/; born October 2, 1957) is an American stand-up comedian who uses observational, sarcastic, and self-deprecating humor. His performances are relatively clean as he refrains from profanity and off-color humor. Regan's material typically covers everyday events, such as shipping a package with UPS and a visit to an optometrist. Regan makes frequent references to childhood, including little league baseball, grade school spelling bees, and science projects. Body language and facial expressions make his stand-up act atypically physical. His clean, off-center humor has been praised by critics and contemporaries alike and Regan enjoys a fan base that crosses age groups; he is respected in the comedy community as a "comedian's comedian".

Early life

Regan was born in Miami, Florida, and was raised in Westchester, Florida, with seven brothers and sisters. He attended Christopher Columbus High School. He is of Irish descent. Regan was always a fan of Steve Martin, The Smothers Brothers and Johnny Carson. Though he attended Heidelberg College in Ohio with plans of being an accountant, a football coach there encouraged him to consider theater and communications. He played wide receiver on the football team at Heidelberg. During his last semester in 1980, Regan dropped out of school to pursue stand-up comedy (he eventually finished his degree in 1997). Brian's brother, Dennis Regan, also makes his living as a stand up comedian.
