"Saga of a Star World" (or "Battlestar Galactica") is the pilot for the American science fiction television series of Battlestar Galactica which was produced in 1978 by Glen A. Larson. A re-edit of the episode was released theatrically as Battlestar Galactica in Canada, Australia and some countries in Europe and Latin America before the television series aired in the U.S., in order to help recoup its high production costs. Later, in May 1979, the feature-film edit was also released in the U.S. (see below)
Battlestar Galactica is set in a distant star system, in an age described as "the seventh millennium of time." Twelve colonies of humans, living on different worlds, have been fighting a 1,000 year war against the robotic race of Cylons, who seek to exterminate all of humanity. The Cylons have unexpectedly sued for peace, through the diplomatic agency of a human, Count Baltar. The human leaders, called the Council of the Twelve (with one representative from each colony), and the commanders of their military fleet are all too pleased by the Cylon offer of peace, which ends so many years of warfare. The powerful "Battlestars" are assembled for armistice talks with Humanity's age-old robotic enemy. But it's all a deception – Baltar has betrayed humanity for personal gain, and the Cylons have no intention of making peace.
star-world, StarWorld, Starworld, Star world, or variant, may refer to:
Star worlds are mathematical concepts used in robot navigation. Essentially, a star world is any n-dimensional shape that can be mapped to a sphere world of the same dimension. For example, a cube is a star world because every point on the box can be mapped onto a sphere, and a pentagon is a two dimensional star world because every point on its perimeter can be mapped onto a circle.
Star worlds are useful for modeling simple worlds, robots and obstacles. To model more complex robots, one needs to construct a forest of stars.
Star World (stylized as StarWorld) is a 24-hour Asian English language cable and satellite television channel owned by STAR TV and Fox International Channels, two fully owned subsidiaries of 21st Century Fox. It is the successor to Star Plus, which is now one of its sister channels. The channel mostly syndicates popular shows from the United States, the United Kingdom and sometimes Australia to appeal to English-speaking locals as well as the expatriate population of South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
Star World was earlier named Star Plus. It was first launched on 15 December 1991, and is a 24-hour English-language television channel showcasing international content from the United States, United Kingdom and Australia with Zee TV being the Hindi satellite television channel and its India counterpart was Zee Telefilm and India was Zee TV. But after STAR TV ended its partnership with Zee Telefilm, STAR Plus started telecasting the 1991 British comedy television programme series Mr. Bean (from ITV) with English dubbing and Chinese subtitles while STAR News showed the delayed telecasts of English news programmes.
