North Clay High School, also called Louisville-North Clay or just Louisville, is a public high school serving students in grades 9-12 in northern Clay County, Illinois, USA. It is the only high school in the North Clay Unit School District #25.

Mission statement

North Clay High School exists to serve and educate all students in grades 9 through 12 with a safe learning environment. Students will become responsible for their own learning and take charge of their own education. Students will determine their learning goals and acknowledge problems that are meaningful to their future success. We believe that the educational system, including technology, should provide each student with an opportunity to develop to his or her fullest capacity in the areas of mental, physical and emotional needs.

Athletics

The school offers baseball (fall and spring), Girls softball, volleyball, Boys and Girls basketball, cross country and golf. The school competes in the IHSA as part of the Midland Trail conference.

Name

As Clay High School is named after the county it is located in, Clay County, it is indirectly named for Henry Clay, Sr. Clay was a dominant figure in both the First Party System to 1824, and the Second Party System after that. Known as "The Great Compromiser" and "The Great Pacifier" for his ability to bring others to agreement, he was the founder and leader of the Whig Party and a leading advocate of programs for modernizing the economy, especially tariffs to protect industry, a national bank, and internal improvements to promote canals, ports and railroads.

Clay County

Clay High School was the first high school in Clay County, and served every city in the county, including Keystone Heights, Green Cove Springs, Orange Park, Penny Farms, and all the unincorporated towns in the county.

Original location

Clay High School was located at the Green Cove Middle school, but now it has been moved to a much larger building off of SR 16, about 2 miles from the original school.

Clay High School is a public high school in Oregon, Ohio, United States, east of Toledo. It is the only high school in the Oregon City School District.

Over the last few years the Clay High School Campus has undergone remodeling. An addition was made to the main building, while the old elementary and the Annex were demolished. The Main building also was gutted and redone.

The school colors are green and gold. Their nickname is the Eagles. Clay was a member of the Great Lakes League until 2003 when they joined the Toledo City League. Clay's joining of the TCL made them the second non-Toledo team to join the league (Cardinal Stritch 1971-1994) though they have played the Toledo City League schools for years prior to joining. In 2011, Clay joined the newly formed Three Rivers Athletic Conference as a charter member.

"Integrated Machining & Engineering" aka Machine Trades is a Tech Prep career & tech class at Clay high school. A two year program that educates students in the tool & die related fields as well as emphasis on engineering. Students receive opportunities to work in the related fields as part of the senior year. In most jurisdictions, secondary education in the United States refers to the last four years of statutory formal education (grade nine through grade twelve) either at high school or split between a final year of 'junior high school' and three in high school.

History

The United States historically had a demand for general skills rather than specific training/apprenticeships. High school enrollment increased when schools at this level became free, laws required children to attend until a certain age, and it was believed that every American student had the opportunity to participate regardless of their ability.

In 1892, in response to many competing academic philosophies being promoted at the time, a working group of educators, known as the "Committee of Ten" was established by the National Education Association. It recommended twelve years of instruction, consisting of eight years of elementary education followed by four years of high school. Rejecting suggestions that high schools should divide students into college-bound and working-trades groups from the start, and in some cases also by race or ethnic background, they unanimously recommended that "every subject which is taught at all in a secondary school should be taught in the same way and to the same extent to every pupil so long as he pursues it, no matter what the probable destination of the pupil may be, or at what point his education is to cease."
