Marilou Díaz-Abaya (March 30, 1955 – October 8, 2012) was a multi-awarded film director from the Philippines. She was the founder and president of the Marilou Díaz-Abaya Film Institute and Arts Center, a film school based in Antipolo City, Philippines. She was the director of the 1998 film José Rizal, a biographical film on the Philippines' national hero. She meticulously produced films for over twenty years and was part of the Second Golden Age of Philippine Cinema.

Early life

Díaz was born in Quezon City in 1955. She was on of seven Children of lawyers, Conrado Diaz and Felicitas Correa Diaz. She grew up quite privileged. Her father is from Paoay, Ilocos Norte, and is related to Valentin Diaz, who was one of the founding signatories in 1892 of the nationalist association La Liga Filipina with Jose Rizal, whom her famous film was about.

Marilou and her siblings grew up in a house filled with art that was instituted by their parents who were art collectors. On the walls of their house hung several painting by national artist Fernando Amorsolo. Diaz-Abaya and her siblings were forced by their parents to take up piano classes and ballet classes. According to Diaz-Abaya, later on, as she became a filmmaker, she realized the importance of art in her youth.

Marilou Bourdon (born September 20, 1990) is a French-Canadian pop singer from Longueuil.

Background / early life

Marilou was born on September 20, 1990 in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. At 8 years old, Marilou began singing for friends and relatives and by age 10 she was already a local success. Her first appearance was in several of several hundred spectators at an annual concert show. She was discovered in 2001, when she sang a duet with Natasha St-Pier in a Quebec show called Stars à domicile. She started her recording career by signing children’s songs for TV shows and movies. This led to a feature appearance at age 12 on one of French Canada’s biggest TV shows where she paid homage to her idol, Celine Dion, as part of a two-hour special that reached 3 million viewers. She sang Dion's first hit song, “Ce n’était qu’un reve”, and received rave reviews.

Music career

Her career started in 2002 when she had her first single, Je serai la pour toi, in a duo with Canadian Gino Quilico. The song was the French version of There For Me, covered by Sarah Brightman in a duet with José Cura. Marliou signed with Sony BMG Canada in 2004 before going on tour, opening for Garou.
