Madison Park is a neighborhood in east central Seattle, Washington, USA, named after the city park at the foot of E. Madison Street on the Lake Washington shore. It is bounded on the east by Lake Washington; on the south by the intersection of Lake Washington Boulevard E. and 39th Avenue E., beyond which is Denny-Blaine; on the west by Lake Washington Boulevard E.; and on the north by Union Bay. Washington Park and the private Broadmoor community and golf course are subunits within Madison Park. The neighborhood's main thoroughfares are E. Madison Street (northeast- and southwest-bound) and McGilvra Boulevard E. (north- and southbound).

Madison Park in the early 1900s was a popular destination for people who lived in Downtown Seattle and continues to draw from Capital Hill and beyond, especially on warmer days. Though very close to the city center, it was seen as a summer getaway, with a cable car leading over the hills to the lake, park, swimming beach and ferries to destinations across Lake Washington.

Madison Park is an 8.3 acre (34,000 m²) park in the Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, located between the western shore of Lake Washington on the east, 42nd Avenue E. on the west, E. Madison Street on the north, and E. Blaine Street on the south. 43rd Avenue E. divides it into two sections; the east is a swimming beach and public dock, and the west is a playground, playfield, and tennis courts. Next to the beach is Madison Park Co-op, a community playhouse for toddlers and children.

For the first 19 years of its existence, the Madison Street Cable Railway ran on Madison Street from Elliott Bay to the park. Service was cut back to 21st Avenue in 1910. In addition, from the early 1880s to August 31, 1950, there was ferry service from Madison Park across the lake to Kirkland. (The construction of the Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge in 1940 had greatly reduced demand and the continued existence of the run could no longer be justified after tolls were removed in 1949.)

Band history

Madison Park released some of their first tracks on the first two volumes of New Sound Theory, a pair of chill-out compilations released in 2003 through basicLUX Records. The record label was founded by the duo in 2002. When their track “My Personal Moon” on Volume 1 unexpectedly hit the Billboard Dance Singles Sales Chart, they decided to push-up the release of a full Madison Park album titling it, Boutique. This first album, Boutique, was released in 2004, and "Ocean Drive", the first single from the album entered as the "Hot Shot Debut" on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart peaking at #12. In 2005, their remake of Roxy Music's "More Than This" also charted on Billboard's Dance Top 30 and became the second most played dance-track on internet radio for 16 consecutive weeks, as well as appearing in the Top 10 iTunes Dance section. In 2006, “I’m Listening”, a single from their sophomore album, In the Stars, also became a Billboard Dance charting track.

The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers.Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. The settlement was moved to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay and named "Seattle" in 1852, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.

"Seattle" is a song, which was composed by Hugo Montenegro and whose lyrics were written by Jack Keller and Ernie Sheldon, which was used as the theme for the 1968-70 ABC-TV U.S. television show Here Come the Brides, which was situated in 19th-Century Seattle, Washington.

Performances

Late in the show's first season, singer Perry Como recorded a version of the song, which became a Top 40 hit for him on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts in early 1969. One of the stars of Here Come the Brides, pop singer Bobby Sherman, also recorded a version of the song, but his version was never released as a single.

Two different versions were used as the theme for the television series, for both of which Montenegro conducted an in-studio orchestra: the first was instrumental; and the second was vocal, with its lyrics being sung by a musical team called "The New Establishment."

"Seattle" is sung by the Seattle Sounders FC's supporter groups, during matches, specifically at the kickoff of each half.

Seattle was Perry Como's 17th 12" long-play album released by RCA Records.

Seattle was Perry Como's first attempt at a contemporary 60's sound. The album's opening track, "Happiness Comes, Happiness Goes" features distorted guitars and swirling organs.
