"It's Alright" is the 13th single from Pet Shop Boys and was released in the UK by Parlophone Records on 26 June 1989. It reached number 5 in the UK and, as of February 2009, it is the Pet Shop Boys' 8th best-selling single. The song was originally written and performed by Sterling Void & Paris Brightledge and came to the attention of Pet Shop Boys on a house compilation.
The lyrics list a wide variety of serious political issues in the headlines at the time ("Dictation enforced in Afghanistan, revolution in South Africa taking a stand…"), and then offers the positive message of the title—that on its "timeless wavelength", "music is our life's foundation", it "shall last" and ultimately "succeed all the nations to come".
"It's Alright" was the last song on the Introspective album and with a length over nine minutes it is currently the Pet Shop Boys' longest album track. On the album version, the song concludes with a touch of doubt as Neil Tennant repeats (apparently over the telephone): "I hope it's gonna be alright".
"It's Alright" is the last single from Ricky Martin's album Life. The Spanish version is called "Déjate Llevar" ("Indulge"). The single was released on March 7, 2006.
The original version of "It's Alright" contains Ricky Martin vocals only. In 2006, M. Pokora recorded additional vocals in French, and this new version was released as a single in Francophone countries. It was later included on the special edition of M. Pokora's Player album. It was one of the last songs written by singer-songwriter Soraya who died of a relapse of breast cancer later in 2006.
"Déjate Llevar" peaked at number twenty-one on the Hot Latin Songs in the United States.
The solo version of "It's Alright" reached number seventeen in Finland and number sixty-nine on the Dutch Single Top 100.
The duet version of "It's Alright" with M. Pokora peaked at number four on the French Singles Chart and achieved Silver status for more than 100,000 copies sold. It reached also number eleven in Belgium Wallonia and number eighteen in Switzerland.
