Inch was a pop-punk band formed in San Diego in 1992. The group was founded by former Sub Society vocalist Michael "Stimy" Steinman, guitarist Mike Paprocki and bassist Jeff Reese.

Band history

Inch was formed in 1992 by Michael "Stimy" Steinman, Jeff Reese, Dave Hepler and Michael Paprocki. Steinman sang lead vocals and played guitar, Hepler was on drums, Reese on bass, and Paprocki on guitar. Steinman was the former lead singer of Sub Society, a band who achieved notoriety by being featured in several H-Street skateboarding videos. Inch released their debut album, Stresser, on the Atlantic Records imprint Seed Records in 1994. Seed went out of business before the band's second album DOT Class "C," so that album enjoyed a short release on Atlantic Records before they were dropped and the album was deleted from the Atlantic catalog. DOT Class "C" was then re-released by Cargo/Headhunter Records on CD and on Goldenrod Records and Trademark Records on LP, limited to a run of 750, with hand silkscreened art done by Drive Like Jehu singer and artist Rick Froberg. The song "For Duty And Humanity" from the album was featured on the soundtrack of the 1996 comedy film Flirting With Disaster and was included in the Foundation Skateboards video Duty Now For The Future.

For the United Kingdom, guidance on public sector use states that since 1 October 1995, without time limit, the inch (along with the foot) is to be used as a primary unit for road signs and related measurements of distance (with the possible exception of clearance heights and widths) and may continue to be used as a secondary or supplementary indication following a metric measurement for other purposes.

Inch High Private Eye is a 30-minute Saturday morning animates series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and broadcast on NBC from September 8, 1973, to August 31, 1974. Since the 1980s it has received a resurgence on cable television in the US, in repeats on USA Cartoon Express, Cartoon Network (as part of the Mysteries, Inc. block) and Boomerang.

Plot

The titular character of Inch High Private Eye is a miniature detective (literally one inch high). Inch often enlists the help of his niece Lori (sometimes written "Laurie"), her muscle-bound friend Gator, and their dog Braveheart to help solve mysteries. Their primary mode of transportation is the Hushmobile, a streamlined car that makes virtually no noise while being driven, making it perfect for following criminals unnoticed. Inch works for The Finkerton Detective Agency (a wordplay lampoon of The Pinkerton Detective Agency), where the boss (Mr. Finkerton) constantly dreams of the day that he will fire him.

The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. Members of !!! came from other local bands such as The Yah Mos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. They are currently based in New York City, Sacramento, and Portland, Oregon. The band's sixth full-length album, As If, was released in October 2015.

After a successful joint tour, these two teams decided to mix the disco-funk with more aggressive sounds and integrate the hardcore singer Nic Offer from the The Yah Mos. The band's name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens' Khoisan language were represented as "!". However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. "Chk Chk Chk" is the most common pronunciation, which the URL of their official website and the title of their Myspace page suggest is the preferred pronunciation.
