In Person! is a 1959 album by Tony Bennett, accompanied by the Count Basie Orchestra.

The album was originally intended to be a live recording of a November 1958 performance at Philadelphia's Latin Casino, but the mono recording of the concert was disregarded by producer Al Ham who wanted the album recorded in stereo. Bennett and Basie were then reunited in the studio a month later to recreate the live concert. Fake applause was dubbed onto the original release of In Person! by Ham, and placed in incorrect places on the album. The effect was poorly received and removed for the album's 1994 re-issue. In his autobiography, The Good Life, Bennett wrote that "I never understood why we didn't release the live version. The whole attempt at fabricating an audience was in bad taste" and that as a result of the experience he had always preferred the second album he recorded with Basie that year, Strike Up the Band.

Basie and Bennett recorded two albums together in 1959; In Person! was released by Bennett's record label, Columbia, and Strike Up the Band was released by Basie's label, Roulette.

The show was produced by Telepictures Productions and is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, and after its cancellation, she went on to be a correspondent of Extra.

Premise

Regulars included Jimmy Dale's house band and vocalists the In Singers. For the first season, each episode featured a different host such as Alex Barris, Tommy Common, Doug Crosley, Don Francks, Wally Koster and Gordon Pinsent. Guests in that season included Dave Broadfoot, Cy Leonard, Billy Meek, The Staccatos and Flip Wilson.

For the second season (1967–1968), Alan Hamel became a regular host. Guests that season included Tommy Ambrose, Jack Duffy, Ian and Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot and Rich Little. Some episodes were recorded at Expo 67 in Montreal, as the series often ventured outside the normal studio setting.

Scheduling

This series was broadcast on Saturday nights following Hockey Night in Canada to cover the available time slot until CBC's national newscast that night. Its debut was 17 December 1966 and ran until 11 May 1968, with the series interrupted between television seasons during mid-1967.

In Person is a live album by jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley recorded in San Francisco, California in 1968 featuring performances by Adderley with Nat Adderley, Joe Zawinul, Victor Gaskin and Roy McCurdy with guest vocalists Lou Rawls and Nancy Wilson contributing on one song apiece.

Reception

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album only 1½ stars but states "It's a loose but fun live session".

A person is a being, such as a human, that has certain capacities or attributes constituting personhood, which in turn is defined differently by different authors in different disciplines, and by different cultures in different times and places. In ancient Rome, the word persona (Latin) or prosopon (πρόσωπον; Greek) originally referred to the masks worn by actors on stage. The various masks represented the various "personae" in the stage play.

The concept of person was developed during the Trinitarian and Christological debates of the 4th and 5th centuries in contrast to the word nature. During the theological debates, some philosophical tools (concepts) were needed so that the debates could be held on common basis to all theological schools. The purpose of the debate was to establish the relation, similarities and differences between the Λóγος/Verbum and God. The philosophical concept of person arose, taking the word "prosopon" (πρόσωπον) from the Greek theatre. Therefore, Christus (the Λóγος/Verbum) and God were defined as different "persons". This concept was applied later to the Holy Ghost, the angels and to all human beings.
