The band currently consists of Jordan Pundik (lead vocals), Chad Gilbert (lead guitar, backing vocals), Ian Grushka (bass guitar) and Cyrus Bolooki (drums). Emerging as part of the second wave of pop punk in the late 1990s, music critics consider them a key pioneer of the genre. Labelled the "godfathers of (the second late 1990's wave of) pop punk",AllMusic credits them for "practically serving alongside the work of Blink-182 as the blueprint to the entire genre for the early 2000s." Also renowned for their energetic live performances, the band has garnered a cult following since their inception.
New Found Glory is the eponymously titled second studio album by the American pop-punk band of the same name. It was produced and mixed by Neal Avron and released on September 26, 2000 through Drive-Thru Records. Featuring their breakthrough single "Hit or Miss", the album was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with shipments of 500,000 units.
During the band's American tour in late 2009, they announced a special edition re-release of the album to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The deluxe package included new liner notes, seven b-sides and a DVD. A commemorative tour also took place with the album played live in its entirety. The album has been credited for its impact and long lasting influence on pop punk music, and was officially inducted into the Rock Sound Hall of Fame in 2012. It was also placed in the magazine's "101 Modern Classics" article, a feature honoring the best rock albums since 1997.
Hit or Miss may refer to:
"Hit or Miss (Waited Too Long)" is the first single by New Found Glory (formerly A New Found Glory), from their 1999 debut studio album, Nothing Gold Can Stay.
In 2000, "Hit or Miss" was re-recorded for the band's second studio album New Found Glory. The new version charted at number 15 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in April 2001 and number 58 on the UK Singles Chart in June 2001.
Nothing Gold Can Stay is the debut studio album by American pop-punk band New Found Glory, released on October 19, 1999 through independent record label Eulogy Recordings. At the time, the band was then named "A New Found Glory", but later dropped the indefinite article "A" due to some fans struggling to find their records in stores. The original pressings of the album contained samplings from several films including The Outsiders (1983), Weird Science (1985), and That Thing You Do! (1996), as well as Robert Frost's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay", after which the album is named.
On the strength of the release, Richard Reines, co-founder of Drive-Thru Records, signed the band after paying Eulogy a $5,000 license fee in order to re-release the album. Propelled by debut single "Hit or Miss", Nothing Gold Can Stay garnered a cult following and sold in excess of 300,000 copies. The record was responsible for breaking the band in the United States and has been noted for its influence on contemporary pop punk music.
I see a holy relic as it shines up in the skyFree my
people once and all are willing to die
The fire in my eyes will quickly sweep the land
Smoke will fill the sky and we'll proudly take our stand
As one we march thru the streets with the power of the
We'll put forth the boot as the opposition runs
The sun never sets where our flag flies high
Victory is simple as it shines up in the sky
(chorus)
Victory! For the ashes that we left behind
Victory! For the sake of those who fought and died
Victory! For our freedom 'till the end of time
Victory! You'll soon hear our battle cry
All hail new glory!
Lightning will crash from the sky
And the truth will rise above all the lies
Yes my brother we must prevail
'Cos only the strong will ever be hailed
It will be our new nation, built by blood and brawn
And for years to come this will be our marching song
Take it for granted as the same old story
We'll hang 'em high as we hail new glory
So raise the flag once more
And remind us what we're fighting for
As our blood and loyalty reign
