Kevin Martin (born July 31, 1966), nicknamed "The Old Bear" and "K-Mart", is a retired Canadian curler from Edmonton. He is considered by many commentators and former and current curlers to be the greatest curler of all time.

Over his 30-year curling career, he has won four Briers, a gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics, and one world championship. He has been to a total of three Winter Olympics and four World Championships, and has won a total of two Olympic medals and three World Championship medals. He has won 15 Grand Slam titles on the World Curling Tour (the media count 18, including three Players' Championships won prior to its inclusion as a Grand Slam event), which includes a record eight Players' Championship titles. Over the course of his career, his teams have won around $2 million. He was the first skip to win a "career Grand Slam," winning a title in each Grand Slam event, after he won the Players' Championship Grand Slam event in April 2005. Martin also holds the record for the most Olympic victories, with 20 total wins at the Olympics.

Kevin Jeffrey Martin (born December 14, 1966) is a former member and Chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), an independent agency of the United States government. He was nominated to be a commissioner by President George W. Bush on April 30, 2001, and was confirmed on May 25, 2001. On March 16, 2005, President Bush designated him as FCC chairman, to replace Michael K. Powell. President Bush renominated Martin to a new five-year term on the Commission on April 25, 2006, and he was reconfirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 17, 2006. In January 2009, Martin announced that he would step down from the FCC and join the Aspen Institute, as a senior fellow in the think tank's Communications and Society Program. He has since become a partner with the law firm Squire Patton Boggs LLP.

Prior offices

Before becoming a commissioner, Martin was a Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy. He served as the Deputy General Counsel to Bush-Cheney 2000, on the Bush-Cheney recount team in Florida, and on the presidential transition team. Before joining Bush-Cheney 2000, Martin served as legal advisor to FCC Commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth, in the Office of the Independent Counsel, and as an associate of Wiley Rein LLP (see (, , ).

Kevin Dallas Martin, Jr. (born February 1, 1983) is an American professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Martin played high school basketball at Zanesville High School. He was fourth in the voting for Ohio Mr. Basketball as a Senior, finishing behind LeBron James. He played college basketball for Western Carolina University and in his Junior season he averaged 24.9 points per game which ranked second in the nation. After three years he entered the 2004 NBA draft and was selected with the 26th overall pick by the Sacramento Kings.

Early life

Martin was born in Zanesville, Ohio, to Kevin Sr. and Marilyn Martin. He grew up idolizing Michael Jordan. He played for Zanesville High School and was fourth in the voting for Ohio Mr. Basketball as a Senior, finishing behind the first Sophomore winner LeBron James.

College career

He received a full scholarship to Western Carolina University, where he majored in sports management. On November 22, 2002, Martin scored a college career-high 46 points in a loss against Coastal Carolina. On November 21, 2003, Martin scored 44 points in a loss against Georgia. He ranks fourth all-time on Western Carolina's scoring list with 1,838 points. Martin averaged 23.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game during his three years in college.
