Kaaterskill High Peak (officially just High Peak) is one of the Catskill Mountains, located in the Town of Hunter in Greene County, New York, USA. It was once believed to be the highest peak in the entire range, but its summit, at 3,655 feet (1,114 m) in elevation, places it only 23rd among the Catskill High Peaks. It is, however, the fourth most prominent peak in the range. Due to its situation as the easternmost High Peak, it is also the only one completely outside the watersheds of New York City's reservoirs in the region.

Along with Round Top to the west, its distinctive ridgeline is a visual signature of the Catskills. Even today, it dominates the view of the range from the Hudson Valley. In the early 19th century, it was a frequent subject of works by Thomas Cole and other artists of the Hudson River school. Their works helped establish the Catskill Mountain House and other hotels around North-South Lake as the fashionable summer vacation spot for wealthy Americans of the era.

The constituency covers much of northern Derbyshire and represents most of the west of the Peak District which encircles Buxton and Glossop.Crowden, Tintwistle and Woodhead (formerly within the boundaries of Cheshire and in the Stalybridge and Hyde constituency) were brought into the seat in the boundary changes for the 1983 general election. The constituency boundaries became co-terminous with the local government district at the 2010 general election.

Constituency profile

Areas around the Hope Valley have a Conservative majority, whereas the north western part of the constituency, in Glossop (especially the Manchester overspill estate of Gamesley), Hadfield and Tintwistle, are more Labour-inclined. Buxton is often divided between the two main parties. The seat has considerable connections with Manchester (and the Hope Valley with Sheffield), rather than the East Midlands.

History

In April 2012 Centrebus and Wellglade Group entered a 50/50 joint venture. This saw Bowers Coaches and Trentbarton's Buxton operations combined based at the latter's Dove Holes depot.

Included were the Skyline 199 service from Buxton to Stockport and Manchester Airport.and Transpeak from Nottingham through Derby, Belper, Matlock, Bakewell, Buxton and Stockport to Manchester. It has a fleet of 50 vehicles, which operates from the former Trent Barton depot at Dove Holes, and employs around 100 people.

Most of the former Bowers fleet has the standard blue and orange corporate Centrebus livery, although Skyline buses retain their previous livery from Trentbarton, TransPeak has been given a refresh. Some buses are still in Bowers red livery while Cheshire Connect vehicles used on former Bowers route around the Macclesfield area retain the current livery as part of the contract with Cheshire East Council.
