Katharine Elinor Margaret St John (born 2 October 1957, London) is an English musician, vocalist, composer, record producer, and arranger. She plays the oboe, saxophone, accordion, piano and cor anglais.

Career

1980s

Kate began her career in the Ravishing Beauties, an early 1980s group with Virginia Astley and Nicky Holland. The band released no records, and St John left in 1982. In the mid-1980s, she was a part of The Dream Academy, with Nick Laird-Clowes and Gilbert Gabriel. The Dream Academy's biggest success was its 1985 song "Life in a Northern Town", a tribute to 1970s solo artist Nick Drake. The band, after being unable to keep its standings in the charts, broke up in 1991. During her time with The Dream Academy, St John also worked with Tears for Fears, Steve Nieve and recorded with Julian Cope, Julia Fordham and Kirsty MacColl.

1990s–2000s

During the nineties, St John worked with Van Morrison, Richard Wright, Nigel Kennedy, Joe Boyd, Jools Holland and Egberto Gismonti. In 1992, she made The Familiar, a collaborative album with Roger Eno. Also that year, Eno and St John, along with Bill Nelson, Laraaji and Mayumi Tachibana, created the supergroup Channel Light Vessel, which released two albums. She also contributed cor anglais to Morrissey's cover of The Jam song That's Entertainment and oboe, cor anglais and soprano saxophone to Starshaped by Blur.

St. John is an English restaurant on St John Street in Smithfield, London. It was opened in October 1994 by Fergus Henderson, Trevor Gulliver and Jon Spiteri, on the premises of a former bacon smoke-house. Under Henderson's guidance as head chef, St. John has specialised in "nose to tail eating", with a devotion to offal and other cuts of meat rarely seen in restaurants, often reclaiming traditional British recipes. Typical dishes include pigs' ears, ducks' hearts, trotters, pigs' tails, bone marrow and, when in season, squirrel. As result, St. John has developed a following amongst gastronomic circles: "chefs, foodies, food writers and cooks on sabbatical".

Awards and accolades

St. John has won numerous awards and accolades, including Best British and Best overall London Restaurant at the 2001 Moet & Chandon Restaurant Awards. It has also been consistently placed in Restaurant magazine's annual list of the Top 50 restaurants in the world. Most recently it was placed 41st, up from 43rd in the 2010 rankings. It was awarded a Michelin star in 2009. St. John Hotel was awarded a Michelin star in September 2012.

St. John is an eroded lunar impact crater on the Moon's far side. This crater is situated to the northeast of the huge walled plain Mendeleev, and southwest of the crater Kohlschütter. To the east of St. John is the small crater Mills.

This is a heavily worn and eroded crater formation that is now little more than an uneven depression in the surface. It is scarcely distinguishable from the surrounding terrain, except from the shadows cast by the outer rim. The interior floor is uneven and marked by a chain of three small craterlets near the midpoint.

Translations and variations

Katherine Anne "Kate" Austen is a fictional character on the ABC television series Lost, played by Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly. Before the pilot was shot during the writing phase, Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox) died when the group finds the cockpit and Kate was to emerge as the leader for the survivors, motivating them to build shelter and begin considering life as permanent residents of the island, however when it was decided he should survive, she was a second-in-command. In this original description for Kate, she was a slightly older woman separated from her husband, who went to the bathroom in the tail-section of the plane. However, that idea ended up being used for Rose Henderson (L. Scott Caldwell) and her husband Bernard Nadler (Sam Anderson). Kate is involved in a love triangle with Jack and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and is seen as very protective of Claire (Emilie de Ravin) and her baby Aaron.

Prior to the crash

Born in 1977 and raised in Iowa, Kate is the daughter of diner worker Diane (Beth Broderick), and Sam (Lindsey Ginter), a U.S. Army Ranger and Gulf War Veteran. At an early age Kate's parents divorced, and Diane married an abusive alcoholic named Wayne Janssen (James Horan). As an adult, Kate killed Wayne, which she confessed to her mother before disappearing. Wayne had always been abusive to her mother, but Kate decided to kill him upon learning that he was her biological father. Diane called the authorities; thereafter Kate is pursued and ultimately arrested by Edward Mars (Fredric Lehne).

Suikoden IV (Japanese: 幻想水滸伝IV, Hepburn: Gensō Suikoden Fō,  (listen) ) is a role-playing video game developed and published by Konami for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console and is the fourth installment of the Suikoden video game series. It was released in August 2004 in Japan, and early 2005 in North America and Europe.

Suikoden IV takes place approximately 150 years before the events of the first Suikoden game, and relates the story of a young boy living on the island of Razril and the Rune of Punishment, one of the 27 True Runes. The Rune of Punishment governs both atonement and forgiveness, and is unusual in that it consumes the life of the bearer with use; once the previous bearer dies, it immediately jumps to someone nearby. Meanwhile, the Kooluk Empire seeks to expand into the nearby Island Nations.

Konami later produced Suikoden Tactics, a spinoff that serves as a direct prequel, side-story, and sequel to Suikoden IV.
