An embedded controller (EC) is a microcontroller in computers that handles various system tasks that the operating system does not handle.

As a core system component, the embedded controller is always on when power is supplied to the mainboard. To communicate with the main computer system, several forms of communication can be used, including ACPI, SMBus, or shared memory.

The embedded controller has its own RAM, independent of that used by the main computer system, and almost always its own flash ROM on which the controller's software is stored. Many BIOS updates also include upgrades for the embedded controller firmware.

Controller is the fourth studio album by the Australian rock band British India, released through Liberation Music on 22 March 2013.

Promotion and release

Controller is the Melbourne group's first album since signing to their first label, Liberation Music. This album also saw the group sign with Mushroom Publishing.

The album debuted at number 10 on the ARIA charts, the group's third album in a row to debut in the ARIA top 10.

Reception

Controller was largely well received, gaining positive reviews from a range of media sources. One critic commented that they focused on "reclaiming the power and intensity that was lacking on their last record".

In control theory, a controller is a device, historically using mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electronic techniques often in combination, but more recently in the form of a microprocessor or computer, which monitors and physically alters the operating conditions of a given dynamical system. Typical applications of controllers are to hold settings for temperature, pressure, flow or speed.

Input and control variables

A system can either be described as a MIMO system, having multiple inputs and outputs, therefore requiring more than one controller; or a SISO system, consisting of a single input and single output, hence having only a single controller. Depending on the set-up of the physical (or non-physical) system, adjusting the system's input variable (assuming it is SISO) will affect the operating parameter, otherwise known as the controlled output variable. Upon receiving the error signal that marks the disparity between the desired value (setpoint) and the actual output value, the controller will then attempt to regulate controlled output behaviour. The controller achieves this by either attenuating or amplifying the input signal to the plant so that the output is returned to the setpoint. For example, a simple feedback control system, such as the one shown on the right, will generate an error signal that's mathematically depicted as the difference between the setpoint value and the output value, r-y.

Embedded is the debut studio album by industrial metal band Meathook Seed, released in March 1993 by Earache Records. The group was founded as a side project by Napalm Death guitarist Mitch Harris in 1992, with the goal to mix industrial metal with death metal. The band was a result of collaboration between Harris, and Obituary members Donald Tardy and Trevor Peres, who handled the drums and vocals respectively.

Overview

Embedded is a mix of death metal, industrial metal and hardcore punk, while the last track of the recording, "Sea of Tranquility", is an ambient and trance song. Every song in the album is different, in terms of tempo and structure alike.

Reception

AllMusic reviewer Jason Birchmeier gave the album three stars out of five, stating that "this daring album may have only been a one-off side project for the trio", and still praising it as "impressive as anything the three released with Napalm Death and Obituary in the '90s".
