Devon Sproule (born 23 April 1982, in Kingston, Ontario) is a musician based for many years in Charlottesville, Virginia. She married musician and singer-songwriter Paul Curreri in 2005. She shared the prestigious ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award for 2009 with Oren Lavie. She and her husband moved to Berlin, Germany, in September 2011. In the spring of 2012 they moved to Austin, Texas.

History

Born to hippie parents on a commune named Dandelion in Kingston, Ontario, Sproule claims citizenship of both Canada and the United States. She spent her childhood on the 465-acre (1.88 km²), 100-member Twin Oaks Community founded in 1967 as an intentional community and ecovillage in Louisa County, Virginia. Asked about how the experience has affected her musical career, she said:

After moving between private, public and home schooling, she eventually left high school, recorded her first record, and began touring nationally—all before the age of eighteen.

She is married to musician Paul Curreri and lived with him in Charlottesville, Virginia. They often performed together locally, and also on tours across the United States and United Kingdom. They were both regular favorites at the now-defunct Gravity Lounge, a major platform for new talent in their hometown.

Devon (/ˈdɛvən/; archaically known as Devonshire) is a county of England, reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. It is part of South West England, bounded by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the northeast, and Dorset to the east. The City of Exeter is the county town; seven other districts of East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Torridge, and West Devon are under the jurisdiction of Devon County Council; Plymouth and Torbay are each a part of Devon but administered as unitary authorities. Combined as a ceremonial county, Devon's area is 6,707 km² (2,590 square miles) and its population is about 1.1 million.

Devon derives its name from Dumnonia, which, during the British Iron Age, Roman Britain, and Early Medieval was the homeland of the Dumnonii Brittonic Celts. The Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain resulted in the partial assimilation of Dumnonia into the Kingdom of Wessex during the eighth and ninth centuries. The western boundary with Cornwall was set at the River Tamar by King Æthelstan in 936. Devon was constituted as a shire of the Kingdom of England thereafter.

Devon is a unisex given name. It is a variant of Devin, which has Gaelic origins and means "of a little deer".

People

Devon was a parliamentary constituency covering the county of Devon in England. It was represented by two Knights of the Shire, in the House of Commons of England until 1707, then of the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800 and finally the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1832. Elections were held using the bloc vote system of elections.

Under the Reform Act 1832, it was split into two divisions: Northern Devon and Southern Devon for the 1832 general election.

Boundaries

The constituency consisted of the historic county of Devon, excluding the city of Exeter which had the status of a county in itself after 1537. (Although Devon contained a number of other parliamentary boroughs, each of which elected two MPs in its own right for part of the period when Devon was a constituency, these were not excluded from the county constituency, and owning property within the borough could confer a vote at the county election. This was not the case, though, for Exeter.)

"Don't!" is a song co-written and recorded by Canadian country music singer Shania Twain. It was released in January 2005 as the second single from her Greatest Hits album. The song was written by Twain and then-husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The song was also included under the end credits of the 2005 film An Unfinished Life, and in the Brazilian soap opera América.

Music video

The music video for "Don't!" was shot in Oaxaca, Mexico at Quinta Real Hotel and Yucca plantation. It was filmed on October 24, 2004 and released January 2, 2005, it was directed by Wayne Isham. The video is available on some of the commercial singles for "Don't!". In 2006, CMT Canada named "Don't!" the eighth sexiest country music video.

In the video Twain rides a horse through rows of Yucca wearing a red dress, and walks around in the hotel wearing a white dress and corset. Near the end of the video, a tear runs down her face.

Chart performance

"Don't!" debuted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart the week of January 29, 2005 at number 44, Twain's fourth highest debut of all time, and highest of the week. The single spent 15 weeks on the chart and climbed to a peak position of number 24 on April 2, 2005, where it remained for one week. "Don't!" became Twain's first single to miss the top 20 since 2000's "Rock This Country!".

"Don't" is a song performed by Elvis Presley, which was released in 1958. Written and produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, it was Presley's eleventh number-one hit in the United States. "Don't" also peaked at number four on the R&B charts.Billboard ranked it as the No. 3 song for 1958.

The song was included in the musical revue Smokey Joe's Cafe, as a medley with "Love Me".

"Don't" is the debut single by American singer Bryson Tiller. It was released on May 20, 2015, as the first single for his debut studio album Trapsoul. The song was produced by Dopeboi. This song has so far peaked at number 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it became Tiller's first top 40 hit and his highest charting single to date.

Background and release

Tiller originally released this song on October 2014 on his SoundCloud page and started receiving attention from internet based fans and music industry insiders, accumulating 4 million streams in the first six months, and eventually reaching over 35 million streams. Tiller, after increased popularity of the single, admitted that he "made this shit in [his] living room". Early co-signs from super producer Timbaland and Canadian rapper/singer Drake led to multiple major label deals for Bryson, with him eventually choosing to sign a creative partnership with RCA Records on August 25, 2015.
