Greenwood High School is a comprehensive public high school established in 1915 serving the community of Greenwood, Arkansas, United States. Located in Sebastian County and within the Fort Smith metropolitan area, Greenwood High School is the sole high school managed by the Greenwood School District and serves students in grades ten through twelve.

Academics

Curriculum

The assumed course of study at Greenwood High School is the Smart Core curriculum developed by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE). Greenwood High School was first accredited by the North Central Association in 1977, followed by accreditation by AdvancED when the NCA unified with AdvancED starting in 2009-10. Students engage in regular and Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and exams to obtain at least 22 units before graduation. Exceptional students have been recognized as National Merit Finalists and participated in Arkansas Governor's School.

Awards and recognition

In 2012, Greenwood School District and its high school were recognized in the AP District of the Year Awards program in the College Board's 3rd Annual Honor Roll that consisted of 539 U.S. public school districts (6 in Arkansas) that simultaneously achieved increases in access to AP® courses for a broader number of students and improved the rate at which their AP students earned scores of 3 or higher on an AP Exam.

Greenwood High School is located in the city of Greenwood, South Carolina. The school has approximately 1,600 students and is one of two high schools in Greenwood School District 50. The principal is Chad Evans. The school's mascot is the Eagle.

Campus

In the summer of 2008, Greenwood High began renovations to the campus. A new classroom wing was added, which has been completed and is now known as the "H-Building", and the library was extended. The school has a new office section and has added in a new press box and fixed up the home bleachers.

Sports

Greenwood High School competes in SCHSL Class AAAA Division 2 with teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

While successful in many areas athletically, Greenwood is most known for its football program. Playing its first football season in 1933, Greenwood has won 14 state titles and compiled a 71% winning percentage. Most recently they won the 2006 State Championship, were runner-up in 2010 and 2011, and won the 2012 State Championship over Northwestern 31-24 in overtime.

Greenwood High School is a public, co-educational 9-12 secondary school in Midland, Texas. It is a part of the Greenwood Independent School District.

Arkansas (ⁱ/ˈɑːrkənsɔː/) is a state located in the Southern region of the United States. Its name is of Siouan derivation, denoting the Quapaw Indians. "Arkansas", written by Eva Ware Barnett in 1916, is one of the official state songs of Arkansas. It was first adopted as the state song in the early 20th century, but was removed in 1949 due to a copyright dispute. After the state settled the dispute by buying all claims to its copyright, it was restored as state song in 1963.

In 1987, the General Assembly elevated the song to "state anthem" in order to designate "Arkansas (You Run Deep In Me)" and "Oh, Arkansas", both written for the state's 150th birthday in 1986, as state songs; it also designated "The Arkansas Traveler", the state song from 1949 to 1963, as "state historical song".

Another 1987 law requires the Secretary of State to respond to all requests for copies of the "state song" with this song. However, this was done only to preserve the historical status of this song; all four songs are either copyrighted by the state itself or in the public domain. Today, the Secretary of State posts the lyrics to all four songs on its website.
