Gravediggaz is an American hip hop group from New York City, known for its dark sense of humor and abrasive, menacing soundscapes. The group was formed in 1992, bringing together Prince Paul (The Undertaker), Frukwan (The Gatekeeper), Poetic (The Grym Reaper) and RZA (The RZArector). It came about largely due to the efforts of Prince Paul. The group pioneered the small hip-hop subgenre of horrorcore.
The group's first album was originally to be titled Niggamortis; however, this potentially risqué title was changed to 6 Feet Deep for the American market (European versions of the album retained the original title, and also included the bonus track "Pass the Shovel"); it was released on August 9, 1994. The four members adopted Gravedigga alter egos for their work with the group: RZA became The RZArector, Poetic became The Grym Reaper, Prince Paul became The Undertaker and Frukwan became The Gatekeeper. In 1995, the three rapping members (without Prince Paul) released a collaborative EP titled "The Hell EP" with UK trip hop artist Tricky.
Percy Carey (born 11 June 1970), also known by the stage names MF Grimm, Grimm Reaper, GM Grimm and originally Build and Destroy, is an American underground rapper, music producer, CEO, and Eisner Award-nominated comic book writer from New York City. He is a founding member of the Godzilla-inspired Hip-Hop collective Monsta Island Czars and early-90s Hip-Hop group Gravediggers with Roc Raida. MF Grimm is also the founder and CEO of the Day By Day Entertainment label, releasing both his own and other albums to general critical acclaim and high regard. During the early-mid 2000s, Day By Day Entertainment was one of the most prolific underground Hip-Hop labels in the United States. Since the early 2000s, MF Grimm has maintained success releasing albums as a solo artist and with DJ/producer Drasar Monumental in the 2010s. Grimm has released five solo albums, five collaborative albums and two compilation albums.
Percy Carey grew up in the Upper West Side section of Manhattan. His neighbor, Morgan Freeman, helped arrange for him to be cast as a child actor on Sesame Street, he first appeared in Season 7, Episode 0806. He appeared on the show from Age 5 to around Age 9. "One episode, I lost my tooth, and me and Big Bird had to go through Sesame Street and try to find it," Carey remembers. The idea for that episode came about after Carey told Jim Henson about a dream he'd had the night before.
