Ron Carter (born Ronald Levin Carter, May 4, 1937) is an American jazz double bassist. His appearances on over 2,000 albums make him one of the most-recorded bassists in jazz history. Carter is also a cellist who has recorded numerous times on that instrument. Some of his studio albums as a leader include: Blues Farm (1973); All Blues (1973); Spanish Blue (1974); Anything Goes (1975); Yellow & Green (1976); Pastels (1976); Piccolo (1977); Third Plane (1977); Peg Leg (1978); and A Song for You (1978).
He was a member of the Miles Davis Quintet in the early 1960s, which also included Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and drummer Tony Williams. Carter joined Davis's group in 1963, appearing on the album Seven Steps to Heaven and the follow-up E.S.P.. Carter also performed on some of Hancock, Williams and Shorter's recordings during the sixties for Blue Note Records. He was a sideman on many Blue Note recordings of the era, playing with Sam Rivers, Freddie Hubbard, Duke Pearson, Lee Morgan, McCoy Tyner, Andrew Hill, Horace Silver and many others. He was elected to the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 2012. In 1993, he won a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Group and another Grammy in 1998 for "an instrumental composition for the film" Round Midnight.

Early life and family
Carter was born in Auckland in 1935, the son of Sybil Muriel (née Townsend) and Eric Powell Carter, a mechanic. He was educated at Auckland Grammar School from 1948. In 2013 he described his time at the school: "In all my days at school, although I was in a high-achieving class, I did not cross the platform once in my five years at Auckland Grammar to receive a class or a subject prize."
Carter then attended Auckland University College, graduating in 1958 with a Master of Engineering degree in civil engineering. His thesis was titled The effect of stress on the longitudinal wave velocity of an ultrasonic pulse in concrete.
Beca Group
Carter joined the Beca engineering company in 1959, becoming a partner in 1965 and managing director in 1986. He was chairman of the Beca group until 2002.

Good conduct time, good time credit, or time off for good behavior is a sentence reduction given to prisoners who maintain good behavior while imprisoned. Good time can be forfeited if a prisoner is determined to have committed disciplinary infractions and/or crimes while incarcerated.
Under U.S. federal law, prisoners serving more than one year in prison get 54 days a year of good time for every year they serve. Thus, a prisoner who is sentenced to 419 days (365 + 54 days) in prison will serve only about 365 days. Thus, prisoners who demonstrate good behavior serve only about 87.1% of their total sentences.
Some prisoners have argued that prisoners serve only about 85.2% of their sentences, because (365 − 54) ÷ 365 ≈ 85.2%, but the statute empowers the Bureau of Prisons to make the calculation, and the Bureau has determined that the 87.1% rate is to be used. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld this rate as valid. Good time is calculated after sentencing by the Designation and Sentence Computation Center. Rumors constantly circulate within federal prisons that a Good Time Bill will be passed increasing the amount of good time granted to prisoners, and indeed such bills are sometimes introduced.
"Good Time" is a song by American electronica project Owl City and Canadian artist Carly Rae Jepsen. It was released as the lead single from Owl City's album The Midsummer Station and was used as the second single from Jepsen's second studio album, Kiss. "Good Time" was written by Matt Thiessen, Brian Lee and Adam Young, of Owl City. The song received generally positive reviews from music critics, with critics describing it as a "summer anthem".
"Good Time" has attained commercial success worldwide, reaching No. 1 in Canada, New Zealand and South Korea, while peaking inside the top ten in United States, Japan, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and other countries.
Background, writing and release
On June 14, 2012, Adam Young announced via Twitter that he would be collaborating with Carly Rae Jepsen on a new song, claiming that it would be released on June 26, 2012. On June 20, 2012, he released the single "Good Time" via his SoundCloud account. The song was released on iTunes on June 26, 2012. "Good Time" was written by Matt Thiessen, Brian Lee, and Young himself. On August 23, 2012, the song became available in the United Kingdom before the official single release as a digital download on iTunes from Owl City's album The Midsummer Station. An acoustic version of the song was released in 2013 on Owl City's The Midsummer Station - Acoustic EP.
Ronald Carter (born March 14, 1958) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey right winger.
Playing career
Carter played junior hockey for the Sherbrooke Castors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. His rights were acquired by the expansion Edmonton Oilers, and he played two games for the Oilers in the 1979–80 season. Those would be the only two games Carter would play in the National Hockey League, but he would go on to have a long career in minor professional leagues.
