The Black Country is an area of the West Midlands in England, north and west of Birmingham, including Dudley, Walsall and Sandwell. In the Industrial Revolution, it became one of the most industrialised parts of Britain with coal mines, coking, iron foundries and steel mills producing a high level of air pollution.

The 14-mile (23 km) road between Wolverhampton and Birmingham was described as "one continuous town" in 1785. The first trace of The Black Country as an expression dates from the 1840s and it is believed that name comes from the soot from heavy industries that covered the area, although the 30-foot-thick coal seam close to the surface is another possible reason.

Borders

The Black Country has no defined borders but to traditionalists is defined as "the area where the coal seam comes to the surface - so Brierley Hill, West Bromwich, Oldbury, Blackheath, Cradley Heath, Old Hill, Bilston, Dudley, Netherton, Tipton, Wednesbury and parts of Halesowen, Walsall and Wolverhampton, but not Stourbridge and Smethwick." Today it commonly refers to the majority of the four boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton although it is said that "no two Black Country men or women will agree on where it starts or ends".

Black Country Communion is the debut release by the English-American rock supergroup Black Country Communion. The album was released in Europe on 20 September 2010, and in the US one day later.

Overview

The band was originally conceived during a concert being held for Guitar Center in November 2009. Joe Bonamassa, who was performing, was asked by Guitar Center to invite several friends along, one of which was former Trapeze and Deep Purple singer/bassist Glenn Hughes. Hughes joined Bonamassa for several songs on stage, which was noticed by producer Kevin Shirley, who had worked with Bonamassa before, on several of his solo albums. Shirley approached Hughes and Bonamassa with the concept of making a studio album under a band moniker. Not long afterwards, drummer Jason Bonham was recruited into the band by Shirley. The concept of a power trio didn't satisfy Bonamassa however, so Derek Sherinian, formerly of Dream Theater and Billy Idol's backing band was asked to join. The band was dubbed "Black Country" by Hughes, but were forced to change their name after another band with the same name threatened legal action.

The Black Country New Road (or Black Country Spine Road) is a major road which runs through the West Midlands of England.

The route was first planned during the 1980s, as a trunk road to link the planned Black Country Route at Bilston with Junction 1 of the M5 motorway in West Bromwich, featuring grade-separated junctions, although these were abandoned by 1992 due to cost-cutting measures by the Conservative government, with conventional traffic islands taking the place of the grade-separated junctions and part of the route diverted along an existing road instead of running along a new mile-long route.

The first phase of the route was completed in July 1995, beginning with a half-mile stretch of dual carriageway linking the A41/A4038 junction in Moxley with the simultaneously completed Black Country Route. It opened at the same time as the Great Bridge to West Bromwich section, which also included the Great Bridge relief road (Great Western Way).

The second phase was completed in November 1995. This route was late in its completion because it made use of a four-span viaduct-style bridge over Eagle Crossing (carrying a section of railway between Walsall and Brierley Hill which had closed two years earlier) in the Toll End area of Tipton.

New Road may refer to:

New Road (Nepali: नयाँ सडक, Nepal Bhasa: न्हु सडक) is the financial hub and busiest high street of Nepal. It refers to a two lane street in the center of Kathmandu, as well as the surrounding neighborhood. It is one of the busiest marketplaces in the city. Being near the midpoint of the ring road in Kathmandu, as well as the old center of Kathmandu (Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur, Kathmandu), it is one of the central locations in the city.

The road was built during the period of prime ministership Juddha Shamsher Rana after the 1934 earthquake destroyed many buildings in the Kathmandu Valley. It is formally called Juddha Sadak in his honor. The road can also be referred as old Kings Way of Nepal, as the road leads to old royal palace of Royal Families, Kathmandu Durbar Square which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The inhabitants of New Road are mostly Newars.

Boundaries of the road

After the fall of autocratic Rana regime, it was renamed New Road.

New Road is one of the most frequented marketplace in the whole of Kathmandu. From clothing, jewellery to electronics, you name it you get it at New Road. To understand lifestyle of Kathmandu, New Road must be seen. It is the most densely populated area in the whole of Nepal.

The New Road was a turnpike road built across fields around the northern boundaries of London, the first part of which opened in 1756. The route comprises the following modern-day roads: Old Marylebone Road, Marylebone Road, Euston Road, Pentonville Road, City Road, and Moorgate.

Early history

In 1755 various influential residents of St Marylebone, Paddington and Islington, at that time separate villages close to London, petitioned Parliament for the right to provide a Turnpike trust road by-passing the northern boundaries of the then built up area of London. The road was intended initially as a route for cattle and sheep to be driven to the live meat market at Smithfield from the various roads approaching London from the north and north-west, thus avoiding the congested east-west route via Oxford Street and High Holborn.

The road would leave a point very close to the junction of the Harrow Road and Edgware Road and head due east past the northern end of Marylebone Lane to Tottenham Court, and from there via Battle Bridge, St Pancras, to the top of St John's Street in Islington, a short distance from the market.
