America's Next Top Model (abbreviated ANTM and Top Model) is an American reality television series and interactive competition that premiered on May 20, 2003 and had its series finale on December 4, 2015. It originally aired on UPN, whose merger with The WB created The CW in 2006. The program aired for 22 seasons ("cycles"), and each cycle saw a number of aspiring models compete for the title of "America's Next Top Model," providing them with an opportunity to begin their career in the modeling industry. It was hosted by supermodel and television personality Tyra Banks, who additionally served as its executive producer and presenter.
America's Next Top Model employed a panel of three (cycles 13-18, 21-22) or four (cycles 1-12, 19–20) judges who critiqued contestants' progress throughout the competition. The original panel consisted of Banks, Janice Dickinson, Beau Quillian, and Kimora Lee Simmons. The panel for the final two seasons consisted of Banks, Kelly Cutrone, and J. Alexander. The series was among the highest-rated programs on UPN, and was the highest-rated show on The CW from 2007 to 2010. Advertisers paid $61,315 per 30-second slot during the 2011–12 television seasons, the highest of any series on The CW.
The eighth cycle of America's Next Top Model aired from February 28, 2007 to May 16, 2007, and was the second season of the series to be aired on The CW network.
The international destination during this cycle was Sydney, Australia. The winner, similar to all of the cycles aired on The CW network, received representation by Elite Model Management, a cover & six-page spread within Seventeen magazine, and a US$100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics.
The cycle's promotional tagline was "Welcome To The Jungle, Ladies" and the promotional theme songs were both Danity Kane's "One Shot" and Shiny Toy Guns' "Le Disko."
The prizes for this cycle were:
This cycle's international destination was Sydney, Australia, this series first visit to Oceania and second visit to Southern Hemisphere since Cycle 4.
The winner was 20-year-old Jaslene Gonzalez from Chicago, Illinois, who notably had made it to the semi-finals of Cycle 7, but was not cast. Jaslene became the first winner without any bottom two appearance.
The twenty-second and final cycle of America's Next Top Model (subtitled as America's Next Top Model: Guys & Girls) premiered on August 5, 2015 and is the sixteenth and final season to air on The CW. The network announced in mid-October that they were cancelling the show and the finale episode aired on December 4, 2015.
Like the two previous seasons, cycle 22 featured both male and female contestants. However, for the first time since cycle 13, the height restriction was removed and the competition was opened to petite models. Tyra Banks, Kelly Cutrone and J. Alexander returned to the judging panel, with photographer Yu Tsai remaining as creative director. Unlike the last three cycles, social media was no longer included on the show. The scoring system remained in place, but only the combined challenge and judges' scores were added into the final tally to determine who would be eliminated.
While there was no international destination for this cycle, the models traveled to Las Vegas for two episodes. This is the second cycle in the series not to feature an international destination, after Cycle 13.
