Camryn Manheim (born March 8, 1961) is an American actress known primarily for her roles as attorney Ellenor Frutt on ABC's The Practice, Delia Banks on CBS's Ghost Whisperer and as Elvis's mother, Gladys Presley in the 2005 mini-series Elvis, and "Control" on Person of Interest.

Early life

Manheim was born Debra Frances Manheim in Caldwell, New Jersey and grew up in Peoria, Illinois. She is the daughter of Sylvia, a teacher, and Jerome Manheim, a mathematics professor. Her family is Jewish. Manheim became interested in acting after working at a Renaissance fair in high school. Manheim graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz with a BFA degree in 1984 and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program with an MFA degree in 1987.

Career

Manheim worked for a while as a sign language interpreter at hospitals. Her knowledge of sign language was used on The Practice, in an episode of Law & Order, and in her role as a child behavioral psychologist in the movie Mercury Rising. In 1983, she made a brief appearance as a girl in an elevator in Sudden Impact alongside Clint Eastwood, in the post-courtroom scene at the beginning. In 1998, Manheim collected an Emmy for her work on The Practice. In 1999, she was awarded the Women in Film Lucy Award.

Camryn Magness (born July 14, 1999), known publicly as Camryn, is an American pop singer and actress from Denver, Colorado. She first gained attention through a series of YouTube videos she posted in 2010, which led to her first United States tour alongside Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance. Most recently, Camryn joined One Direction on their Up All Night Tour and was also asked to rejoin One Direction for 63 sold-out shows on their 2013 Take Me Home Tour in Europe.

She was born in Denver, Colorado and is the granddaughter of Celestial Seasonings founder Mo Siegel. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2009, Camryn was well known for her philanthropic efforts in the city of Denver, which included volunteering at winter coat drives and performing at children's hospitals.

Career

2008–2011: Career beginnings

In late 2008, Camryn was signed to 5280 Media and moved to Los Angeles. Throughout 2009, Camryn wrote and recorded her first single, "Wait and See" with Frank Shooflar of the band Blessed by a Broken Heart and longtime family friend Lennon Murphy. The song was subsequently mixed by Brian Malouf (Michael Jackson, Pink, Madonna). John Schultz handpicked "Wait and See" to serve as the title track in the 2011 film adaptation of the bestselling children's book Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. The film was produced by Smokewood Entertainment. Additionally the music video for "Wait and See" included Family Matters star and Dancing with the Stars contestant Jaleel White.
