E-import Process of an Automobile Dealer in Myanmar: Non-participant Observation

Published: 25 January 2023 Publication History

Abstract

Myanmar automobile dealers import the cargo from foreign countries to the home country (until the company's warehouse) through the international logistics network. In this emerging market, work procedures and functions of the government, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and importers are built both on online embedding IOTs and offline. Stakeholders along with the network effectively and efficiently utilize IOTs for facilitating the information and material flows towards enhancing the decision-makers’ performance and business continuity. Thus, this study attempts to unveil the e-import process of an automobile dealer in Myanmar from the perspective of non-participant observation. The company profile and public information of a case dealer are used as secondary data. The study results are validated by three experienced logistics officers from Myanmar. The results show the detailed procedure of the e-import process of a car dealer/importer and the effectiveness of IOTs along the process. Researchers also point out the challenges of Myanmar's seaborne market and future research directions.
