Laura Cipriani
Laura Cipriani is currently an assistant professor at TU Delft. Since 2012 and 2013 she has taught Landscape Architecture and Landscape Urbanism at Venice University IUAV and at Politecnico di Milano. She also taught at NUS National University Singapore, at Venice International University VIU and at Padova University. Since 2014 she holds the Italian Associate Professorship registration (ANVUR) in Landscape Urbanism and was a Marie Curie researcher at the University of Trento (7th Framework Programme of the European Union).
The academic, didactic and professional interest deals with research in landscape and urbanism issues with a strong commitment in adopting a transdisciplinary approach and in pursuing pioneering research through design. Her research interest is currently focused on resilience and ecological design. In the past she dealt with airport and industrial landscapes.
Laura received a Ph.D. in Landscape Urbanism in 2008 from IUAV Ph.D. School coordinated by Prof. B. Secchi, a Master’s degree (M.Des.) with distinction focused on landscape and urban studies from Harvard University (Graduate School of Design) in 2004 (attended with a grant), and Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Architecture with honors from Venice University (IUAV) in 2001.
After working as an architect in London, Milan and Padova, and collaborating with leading urban-landscape experts such as Carl Steinitz, PROAP Italia, Marcel Smets, in 2008 Laura founded Superlandscape, a landscape, urban and architecture research firm.
Winner of numerous research fellowships, in 2011 Laura was awarded by the Marie Curie Cofund Fellowship within the European Community Seventh Framework Programme. In 2002 she was awarded by a research grant by the Foundation CARIVE (in collaboration with IUAV University of Venice), which allowed her to graduate with honors in landscape and urban studies at Harvard Design School.

The islands and edges of the Venice lagoon have been forgotten for a long time. On one hand, the city of Venice absorbs and concentrates flows of tourists and financial resources, on the other, with few exceptions, the islands are relatively unknown due to the limited connections and their insular character.
What scenarios can be imagined for the islands and mainland? Can the landscape become an economic, environmental and social driving force to transform places? What are the centres for transformation of agriculture, the economy, society, tourism and the environment?

Centri commerciali, insediamenti turistici, consistente infrastrutturazione delle regioni coinvolte, sono solo alcuni degli effetti fisici veicolati dall’espandersi della nuova rete e dove le stazioni aeronautiche costituiscono la porta d’accesso privilegiata delle nuove urbanizzazioni. Airports play an increasingly important role in cities and in regional development. Aviation itself generates social and economic benefits for the area it serves, but also brings with it considerable environmental and social costs. What do we mean by ‘ecological airport urbanism’? Is it possible to integrate landscape and airport infrastructure in an ecologically-‘sustainable’ way? What are the influences on the urban context? Starting from case-studies, this study seeks to address multiple issues related to the urban and environmental impacts of airports and to identify possible interventions to achieve an ‘eco-airport system’ – an infrastructure model with reduced landscape and environmental impact to be applied in other regional contexts. In particular, this research will focus on the North-East of Italy as an experimental field investigation in order to develop a working methodology and strategic-planning proposals.
