Recognition of Examinations
Before you contact us
Please read through our website and in particular our FAQ before contacting us.
When contacting us by telephone, please also have your Student ID number (if already registered at our university) ready.
Recognition of Examinations
(Credit) Recognition or transfer means that academic achievement that a student has acquired in a context beyond their current studies can be accredited towards their degree. Courses/Modules acknowledged for transfer do not need to be taken anymore.
You can submit an application for recognition if you
- have come to the University of Oldenburg from another place of study;
- have switched between programmes at the University of Oldenburg (e.g. your combination of subjects);
- have completed components abroad.
Regarding professionally or vocationally acquired skills, please submit an application for recognition to the PLAR-Service.
Please note that recognition can only take place after you have enrolled at the University of Oldenburg.
Overview of the procedure
1. Application
Complete the applicable form (available only in German) for your subject or degree programme (application for recognition plus appendix for the subject/degree programme or area of specialisation)
Submit your signed application by email together with the appropriate documents and corresponding evidence (grade listing, academic transcript, etc.) to the Examinations Office at anerkennung.dez3@uol.de. If applicable, please include links to sources for module descriptions.
Please observe the following requirements when submitting your application.
- For each subject/degree programme or area of specialisation, please submit the following documents in one PDF file: Application (“Antrag auf Anrechnung”), appendix for each subject (“Anlage”), evidence
If you require recognition for a subject and associated area of specialisation, you should therefore send two separate files.
- The files should be named as follows: [Name]_Recognition_[Subject].
Meaningful abbreviations are permitted.
For example: Smith, Jane_Recognition_Mathematics or Smith, Jane_application for recognition_career_training
2. Review and decision
The Examinations Office will check the documents for completeness, the legal framework and the formal criteria. The competent examining board or a representative competent in the subject area appointed by the examining board will then take a final decision on recognition. You will receive a notification in Stud.IP once your application has been forwarded.
3. Result
If a positive decision is taken on your application, the result will appear in your grade listing in Stud.IP. You will only receive a written decision if your application for recognition is refused.
4. Further instructions
The processing of your application may take a few months depending on workload. Please bear with us and do not make enquiries during this time
