St Clement (d.97) was the third pope after St Peter and author of a famous letter ot the Corinthians, an early example of the Bishop of Rome's universal jurisdiction. Tradition records him being sentenced to hard labour in Crimea and thrown into the sea tied to an anchor. This medieval stained glass of the saint, which looks to be of German provenance, is in the Burrell Collection in Glasgow.
