The study was carried out to investigate the responses of Spondias mombin(Linn.) seedlings to combined phytohormonal treatments. The plant vegetable parameters, mineral constituents, water status, vitamin C ,chlorophyll and biochemical contents of S.mombin were determined using standard methods. The combined hormonal treatments used for this experiment comprised of 100mg/L GA + 15% coconut water, 100mg/L 3 GA + 50 mg/L NAA, 50mg/L NAA + 15% coconut water and 50mg/L ABA + 100mg/L Quinine. A total of 3 five foliar applications were made at four weeks intervals commencing from four weeks after planting. Abstract: Survey of plants used for management of catarrh and arthritis in Abeokuta was conducted. A total of forty four plants belonging to 28 families were collated as being used for management of catarrh and arthritis. Annonaceae, euphorbiaceae, zingiberraceae and solanaceae were the most frequent plant families mentioned. Moringa oleifera (20.45%), Vernonia amygdalina (18.18%), Occimum gratissimum (15.91%), Crinum jagus (15.91%), Milicia excels (15.91%), Ricinus communis (15.91%), Pettveria alliaceae (15.91%), Cybopogon citratus (15.91%), Euphorbia hirta (13.64%), Tetrapleura tetraptera (13.63%) and Terminalia ivorensis (13.64%) were the most frequent mentioned plants. 56.82% of plants were used as leaves, 6.82% as bulbs, 22.27% as leaves, stem, root, leaves, stem-bark, roots and seeds, 4.55% as rhizomes while whole parts of 20.45% of the plants were used for catarrh and arthritis herbal preparations. 75.00% of the plants were reported being used when they were freshly collected...

Abstract- Studies were carried out to investigate the effects of 10%, 15% coconut milk and 50mg/L, 100mg/L Benzyl amino purine on the vegetative growth, nutritional and photochemical constituents of Amaranthus hybridus Linnaeus seedlings. Plants sprayed with water were the controls. All the treatments resulted in significantly increased leaf number, stem girth, plant height, shoot/root ratio, leaf area ratio and chlorophyll content of the vegetable with highest values recorded in treatments with 15% coconut milk at 14 weeks after planting. Treatments with 15% coconut milk also resulted in greater mineral elements contents at 14 weeks after planting of the vegetable. Alkaloids (3.55), saponins (1.66), phenols (0.36) and flavonoids levels (0.85) were higher in 15% coconut milk treated plants, whereas phytic acid (1.26) and hydrocyanic acids levels (15.30) were greater in 100mg/L Benzyl amino purine and 10% coconut milk respectively at 14 weeks after planting. Abstract- Several vegetable species abound in Nigeria and most West African countries where they are used partly as condiments or spices in human diets or as supplementary feeds to livestock. There were ten samples of vegetable used in this study and were analyzed for a major source of ascorbic acid and the mean values ranged from 170 – 425 mg/100 g, Celosia argentea “Soko” (425 mg/100 g) and Amaranthus hydridus “tete” (408 mg/100 g) both having the highest ascorbic acid while Corchorous olitorius “ewedu” (170 mg/100 g) had the least ascorbic acid. Amaranthus hydridus and Talinum triangulare had the highest mineral contents. Carbohydrate contents ranged from 3.9 – 48.2 g/100 g, Ocimum gratissium “efirin” having 3.9 g/100 g while Vernonia amygdalina “ewuro” had 48.2 g/100 g. Protein content ranged from 5 –28.2 g/100 g.
