The verii¬cation index is indicated to coni¬rm the accuracy of the implant position. To construct a stone index, place the transfers in the master model, add wax to the model to promote adequate spacing between the index and the mucosal tissue. Make a wall with wax, in order to allow pouring of the highprecision stone inside the space. After the crystallization of the stone, remove the index and try it in the patient’s mouth. The index of stone should be adapted and screwed into the mouth accurately.

PURPOSE To compare the primary and secondary stability of conventional (≥ 8-mm) and extrashort (4-mm) implants in edentulous patients using different methods of assessment. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients underwent implant surgery and were randomly allocated into two groups: test, with two conventional implants in the anterior region and two extrashort (4-mm) implants in the posterior region; and control, with two conventional (≥ 8-mm) implants in the anterior region only. Primary stability (S1-implant placement) was assessed by insertion torque, implant stability quotient (ISQ, Osstell), and damping capacity (PTV, Periotest), while secondary stability (S221-21 days after S1; and S2clip-at prosthetic loading, ± 3 months after S1) was evaluated by ISQ and PTV. The aesthetics of a dental restoration depends on the chosen material, anatomical form, surface texture, translucency and color. This means that, to accurately reproduce the appearance of a natural tooth, considering the patterns of reflection and absorption of the light is not an easy task (Knispel, 1991; Chu et al., 2004). Ceramics have been widely used in dentistry because of their ability to provide excellent cosmetic results that mimic natural teeth. They are biocompatible, allow adequate reflection and transmission of light, and they exhibit good mechanical strength when subjected to masticatory efforts (Holloway & Miller, 1997). The rapid development of ceramic systems and processing enabled the treatment of teeth in both the anterior and posterior areas, with the primary objectives of properly restoring form, function and aesthetic excellence without the presence of metal.

Purpose: This animal study investigated vertical bone formation (VBF) around implants and used histomorphometric analysis to compare different bone-filling materials associated with a massive titanium dome as a tissue barrier. Materials and Methods: Seven dogs were submitted to surgical procedures with extraoral access to the lower edge of the mandible, and four implants were semi-inserted in each animal. Each implant received one treatment: autogenous bone with clot (AB), control clot (C), synthetic graft (Biogran [BG]), or xenograft (Bio-Oss [BO]). Massive titanium domes were stabilized over the implants. Histologic analysis was performed after 3 months, and quantitative aspects were evaluated in extraosseous and intraosseous threads on Image Pro-Plus software. Results: VBF around implants exhibited significant values in AB compared with other groups. BG and BO presented statistical equivalency to AB and C in the apposition and filling of extraosseous threads. There was no difference between groups for parameters evaluated in intraosseous threads. Conclusion: The experimental model was valid for evaluation of VBF around implants placed in atrophic mandibles. Considering the limitations of this study, histomorphometric analysis evidenced better outcomes for group AB. This in vitro study evaluated the microtensile bond strength (muTBS) of composite resin bonded to dentin that had been contaminated by cigarette smoke. Ten extracted unerupted human third molars were used: Six molars were prepared for muTBS testing, while the other four molars were assigned to pre- and post-etching scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) analysis. The 20 specimens obtained from the 10 coronal portions were distributed into two experimental groups so that each tooth served as its own control. Group 1 underwent a daily toothbrushing simulation and exposure to a smoking simulation chamber, while Group 2 received only a daily simulated toothbrushing. Student's t-test demonstrated that Group 1 samples demonstrated significantly lower bond strength (49.58 MPa) than Group 2 samples (58.48 MPa). The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of a low-shrink silorane-based composite (Filtek Silorane) and a methacrylate-based composite (Filtek Z250) to the bottom dentin of a Class I cavity using different placement techniques. Twelve third molars were used. Standard, box-type Class I cavities (6.0 x 4.0 x 2.5 mm) were prepared at the occlusal crown center, with the pulpal floor ending approximately at the midcoronal dentin. The teeth were then randomly divided into four groups, according to each placement technique: ZI--Filtek Z250 placed incrementally; ZB--Filtek Z250 placed in bulk; SI--Filtek Silorane placed incrementally; and SB--Filtek Silorane placed in bulk. Each restored third molar was subjected to microtensile bond testing after 24 hours of storage in distilled water at 37 degrees C. Esta pesquisa bibliográfica analisou o tema da eticidade em pesquisa qualitativa. Os dados foram coletados em artigos científicos de uma revista brasileira de saúde coletiva de acesso eletrônico. Foram analisados 117 artigos, correspondentes às pesquisas qualitativas e a 23,49% das publicações entre 01/1998 a 03/2007. O corpo de dados foi organizado em torno de questões referentes à identificação, à temática/objeto, ao referencial teórico, à metodologia e aos aspectos éticos envolvidos. A análise propôs questões e indicou relevâncias a partir do que os pesquisadores expressam acerca da ética em seus relatos de pesquisa qualitativa, referentemente a dois tipos de relações - do pesquisador com o "sujeito pesquisado" e com "seus pares". Concluiu-se que há muito a ser problematizado acerca do cotidiano da pesquisa, o que exige exposição e abertura à crítica. É preciso conhecer o próprio discurso sobre o tema e pensar no que "o dito" e o "não dito"...

Estudo de caso que analisou a dimensão ética da formação de profissionais de Odontologia. Foram realizados: entrevistas com professores, observações de atividades acadêmicas e grupos focais com alunos. A triangulação dos dados possibilitou o conhecimento aprofundado da realidade, revelando elementos do currículo oculto que influenciam a formação ética, como o cuidado, foco de discussão deste artigo. Alguns aspectos relacionados, como o trote universitário e os altos custos para a aquisição de material odontológico, são tomados como analisadores do maior ou menor cuidado ético-pedagógico desenvolvido pelos docentes e pelas instituições. Ao se discutirem as demais formas nas quais o cuidado, e a falta dele, se concretizam, revelam-se, também, problemas que implicam a necessária reflexão sobre o fazer docente, demandando interesse e comprometimento, mas, também, capacitação. RESUMO-Estudo multicêntrico e interinstitucional que objetivou avaliar os efeitos produzidos por processos de formação de apoiadores institucionais da Política Nacional de Humanização (PNH) entre 2008 e 2010. Para a PNH, a dimensão ético-estético-política (DEEP) da humanização consiste em um compromisso dos sujeitos com a atenção e a gestão da saúde, assentado em valores como a autonomia e o protagonismo dos sujeitos, a corresponsabilidade, a solidariedade dos vínculos, a defesa dos direitos dos usuários e a participação coletiva na gestão. O percurso desta pesquisa avaliativa de 4ª geração se apoiou em estratégias formativo-interventivo-participativas, como a constituição de comitês ampliados de pesquisa, oficinas e seminários com os apoiadores-319 trabalhadores do SUS distribuídos em 111 municípios paulistas, catarinenses e gaúchos.
