O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar os impactos de um projeto de responsabilidade socioambiental, d... more O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar os impactos de um projeto de responsabilidade socioambiental, desenvolvido pelo Instituto GEA, em cooperativas de catadores de materiais recicláveis em duas cidades brasileiras. Para isso foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas nas cooperativas, além de uma pesquisa documental nos arquivos do instituto. Durante a execução do projeto, foi contabilizado o montante de renda apurada para os catadores, em mais de 15 toneladas de resíduos de equipamentos elétricos e eletrônicos triados e vendidos para empresas certificadas ambientalmente. Os benefícios sociais, ambientais e econômicos observados comprovam êxito de um modelo de iniciativa empresarial sustentável que pode ser replicado. One of the critical topics in contemporary innovation management literature concerns what constit... more One of the critical topics in contemporary innovation management literature concerns what constitutes innovation capability (IC) at the firm level. There have been many attempts to conceptualize and operationalize this capability. Still, they either fail to discriminate the elements that characterize IC or to present consistent, comparable elements across distinct models or frameworks. This paper reports the results of a systematic approach to formulate a firm-level IC framework. To do so, the authors conducted an extensive systematic literature review, screened 19,589 papers, and analyzed in detail 186 documents that directly address empirical or theoretical elements of IC. The researchers cross-analyzed these papers for direct and indirect references to ICs (and related concepts, such as innovation orientation, innovation competence, and innovativeness) and generated thematic categories. We drew on a hybrid approach moving between inductive and deductive coding and theme development. We adopted an ex-ante theoretical perspective of the propensity/ability axis built upon the willingness–ability approach and the dynamic capability lens. The proposed synthetizing framework is coherent with Teece’s (2014) ordinary and dynamic capabilities. It comprises two sets of elements: on one hand, structural and contextual antecedents that characterize an organization's propensity toward innovation and, on the other hand, actions and resource-related capacities that act as causal mechanisms that, articulated within functions—sensing, seizing, and transforming—constitute the ability to generate innovation.

Extant literature has increased our understanding of the multifaceted nature of digital technolog... more Extant literature has increased our understanding of the multifaceted nature of digital technologies; nevertheless, scholars and policymakers still strive to understand their implications for society. On this account, the Network Readiness Index (NRI) emerged as one of the main reports to support governments in leveraging digital technologies for economic development and social progress. However, which individual indicators have more influence than others on impact subindices for socioeconomic development? And considering recent debates around the digital divide, does the NRI address major concerns to comprehensively assist policymakers in leveraging ICTs for inclusive development? This study reveals the indicators that most significantly influence the NRI's economic and social impact pillars based on the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) analysis of NRI for 2013-2016. Furthermore, we draw on extant literature to discuss gaps and limitations in the NRI in terms of scrutiny of populations with access to digital technologies, and we set out an agenda for future research and policy to address digital divides more comprehensively.

Furthermore, the study reveals that the systematic and comprehensive adoption of LS nurtures the development of an entrepreneurial experimental capability to explore opportunities in a quasi-scientific and hypothesis-driven fashion.
Originality/value
The study investigates how Brazilian engineering, biotechnology and software startups exploit opportunities and overcome constraints to business model validation through the combined adoption of LS and complementary strategies and practices and provides a set of propositions to guide future research.

Public organizations are immersed in challenging contexts, having to meet and balance internal an... more Public organizations are immersed in challenging contexts, having to meet and balance internal and external demands for transparency, accountability, political goals, and specific regulatory requirements. In this scenario, there is a growing enthusiasm from worldwide governments toward improvements of operations within their public institutions, including the adoption of management practices borrowed from the manufacturing industry, such as Lean Manufacturing. A large body of literature is evolving and addressing the importance of nurturing debates over Lean in the public domain, and so are efforts to integrate and structure such knowledge. We claim that (mainly) considering the public sector context, a geographical analysis is imperative for the research progress to be effective. We, therefore, seek to provide an extended look by conducting a qualitative systematic review, thoroughly scrutinizing extant empirical investigations across the globe, and over the years. We provide a categorization of current literature on the topic, identifying gaps, and providing timely avenues for future research.

Despite its popularity, the literature on the LS and its key underpinnings (Agile Methodologies and Customer Development) is sparse, lacking an integrated and structured analysis of their impacts and potentialities. The paper aims to discuss this issue.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a comprehensive systematic literature review on the topic fully analyzing a final set of 71 papers.
Findings
There is a turning point in the research stream’s maturity with publications in conferences and major journals, with the predominance of empirical investigations in the European region. Articles on the topic are on the rise in several technology fields. However, the literature on the subject falls short on providing guidance to assist practitioners and scholars on the adoption and investigation of these methodologies.
Practical implications
The paper provides guidance for practice by presenting a staircase roadmap for the LS implementation drawing from the final set of papers reviewed.
Originality/value
The study categorizes the current literature through a concept map, and offers a structured research agenda beyond the categories from the thematic analysis.
