This article reviewed reflection of knowledge dissemination on Islamic historiography and how it influenced
Islamic thought among the local Malay community. The analysis yielded four themes namely reflection on the
means of dissemination of knowledge, Reflection on dissemination of knowledge in Science, Mathematics and
Chemistry in the Malay World. This study provides a guide for historians and practitioners in the Malay-Islamic
realms. Future research should focus on the development of reflection on knowledge dissemination by other
ethnic groups to provide a rich insight into various discourses on reflection.

Mothers of preschoolers in China and India reported on the value they accorded to items tapping two socialization goals, Filial Piety and Socioemotional Development and two parenting styles, Authoritative and Authoritarian. In both cultures, maternal valuing of Filial Piety was associated with greater exertion of parental control, whereas greater valuing of Socioemotional Development was related to more frequent use of Authoritative practices. However, patterns in relationships between Filial Piety, Socioemotional Development and Authoritative parenting differed across Chinese and Indian mothers. Positive associations were found among these three variables for Indian mothers, reflecting Hindu beliefs about young children and childhood. Among Chinese mothers, on the other hand, Filial Piety was negatively related with Socioemotional Development and the use of Authoritative practices. Our results suggest that Chinese mothers believe that the use of authoritative practices, which encourage socioemotional development in children, will inhibit achievement of filial behaviour and academic achievement. Contrasts between these two Asian cultures highlight the importance of considering parents' socialization goals and beliefs in cross-cultural studies of child-rearing practices. This article seeks to draw attention to ways in which culturally based values and practices can and should influence implementation of globalised approaches to early childhood education and care across diverse contexts. Recent discussions have drawn attention to complexities associated with assimilation of globalised notions across diverse cultural contexts. This article is situated within such discussions, highlighting patterns of differentiation in the spread of globalisation across aspects of policy and practice. The article's position is that wider promotion of such patterns, as processes through which local values might mediate the impact of globalisation on early childhood services, will support avoidance of global ‘recolonisation’ of policy and practice. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) signal a greater focus on inter-sectoral, collaborative approaches to ensuring that all human beings can fulfil their potential in dignity and equality. This is reflected in the current global concern with promotion of holistic, community-based programmes to support early childhood development and wellbeing – widely referred to as ‘early childhood development’ (ECD). Within this context, the study reported here sought to achieve consensus among 14 global experts on training needs for three groups of personnel (‘cadres’) involved in delivery of early childhood development (ECD) programmes.
